Overview:
Starting Pay: $20.63 to $24.24 DOE

Fully benefited position working 80 hours per two week pay period. Weekends are variable and no holidays. Will be on call once every 5 weeks. Night call rotation is variable.

The technician must have a certification in one or more of the following areas. Electrical distribution, emergency generation equipment, plumbing systems, steam boiler operation, chilled water plant, related water chemistry for steam, open and closed loop water circulation systems, heating ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, refrigeration systems, carpentry, cameras systems, door security, building management systems, fire alarm systems, and grounds maintenance.
Responsibilities:
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The technician must possess a good knowledge of operation and function and be able to trouble shoot and repair one or more of the following areas and/or duties.


While performing duties, may interact with patients of all ages (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics).

Mechanical and Steam Generation Duties:
  • Mechanical systems and be qualified in "problem solving", maintenance and repair; the technician will be required to make repairs or to take charge of the project, and organize work details assigned to repair or maintain the systems.
  • Possesses the ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints.
  • Understands the standby power generator, power transfer switchgear operation, performs the preventative maintenance procedures in a safe manner; maintains generator in a state of ready to operate condition.
  • Can diagnose problems by mentally breaking down the problem into electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical groups. Then focus on the individual sequence of operation to solve the problem.
  • Responsible for the repack, replace, repair, seals and gaskets in pumps, valves, pressure reducing stations and secondary steam relief valves.
  • Responsible for the operation of the boilers and chiller; can perform normal start up and shut down; possesses the knowledge to determine operating conditions that could damage the machine; understands the chemical treatment required and to calculate the proper dosage required.
  • Advises the manager of materials needed for the essential operation of the department; in the absence of the manager knows the procedures of obtaining essential materials required to maintain operation of the plant
  • Assists with and understands the operation and maintenance of the heating and ventilation, and boiler systems. Installs and services devices, blowers, motors and air filters as needed. Can identify critical parts of each system and describe the safety function. Possesses the ability to completely rebuild an exhaust fan or pump unit with little or no supervision.
  • Floor repair and installation. This includes but is not limited to Vinal, epoxy, carpet, and or tile.
  • Responsible for the preventive maintenance program related to environmental equipment.
  • Understands the importance of controlling the spread of bacteria. Possesses the ability for the proper use of disinfecting and cleaning compounds. Properly uses the disinfectants to control air-born bacteria.
  • Knows where isolation heating, cooling, water and steam valves are located.
  • Installs and services bath and lavatory and sink trim as needed. Properly maintains anti‑syphon devices and other devices to prevent the contamination of the potable water supply.
  • Possesses the ability to solder and braze tubing properly.
  • Can identify parts of the plumbing system and describe the function.
  • Effectively use the enzymes for drain maintenance.
Electrical Duties:
  • Understands the VOHM meter and use as related personal safety and problem solving.
  • Possesses the ability to read and understand electrical blueprints.
  • Possesses basic knowledge of the operation of temperature control systems.
  • Knows the electrical distribution system and the location of critical, emergency and uninterrupted power supply panels within the hospital.Responsible for and understands the operation and function of the standby power generator. Maintains generator in a state of ready to operate condition.
  • Responsible for and understands the power transfer switchgear operation, performs the preventative maintenance procedures in a safe manner; maintains switchgear in a state of ready to operate condition.
  • Possesses the knowledge to operate the electrical test equipment for determining the leakage current and ground leakage relating to equipment used by other departments. The technician shall repair or replace broken, damaged electrical equipment, remove from service when noticing an unsafe condition, report to the Safety Officer.
  • Understands the proper “lock out tag out procedure” when replacing a wall switch or an outlet. Replaces bulbs as required.
Plumbing Duties:

  • Can diagnose problems by mentally breaking down the problem into mechanical groups. Then focus on the individual group to solve the problem.
  • Has the ability to solder and braze tubing properly.
  • Can identify parts of the plumbing system, interpret the isometric plumbing diagrams, and describe the reason for each component and function.
  • Knows where isolation heating, cooling, water and steam valves are located.
  • Installs and services bath and lavatory and sink trim as needed.
  • Properly maintains anti-siphon devices and other devices to prevent the contamination of the potable water supply
  • Effectively use the enzymes for drain maintenance.
  • Understands the potable water distribution system of the hospital. The technician shall repair or replace broken, damaged and deteriorated pipes, valves and faucets.
  • Knows the sewage distribution system of the hospital. Responsible for the cleaning of drains as required.
  • Responsible for and understands how to handle emergencies with the medical gas systems in the hospital, can replace the tanks as required. Can identify the gas used.
Carpentry Duties:

  • Has the ability to perform minor repairs such as fastening loosened devices; can select the proper fastener for the task.
  • Has the ability to effectively use saws, drills, sanders and other tools related to carpentry.
  • Knows the proper glues and strength when bonding materials together. Can select the proper paint for the materials.
Ground Duties:

  • Putting out and gathering of the flag. Checking the automatic locking system of the entry doors for proper operation.
  • Assists with yard care maintenance duties.
  • Use of the snow removal equipment to maintain the walkways and parking lots clear of snow and debris as required.
  • When proper training is complete, operates medium sized power equipment such as dump truck, loader, sweeper and lawn equipment used to maintain the grounds.
General Knowledge:
  • In the absence of the manager, may be assigned to oversee the operation of the department; can give and take orders well; determine what is an emergency situation and by staff decision, can take corrective action; communicates well with others.
  • Responsible for collecting and discarding from the medical floors, waste disposal, waste packing, chemical disposal and hazardous waste handling as per the Hazardous Waste Policy.
  • Possess the ability to delegate and receive job assignments. Able to determine when a problem is an emergency situation and take appropriate corrective action. Possess the ability to communicate well with others.
  • Shall complete all duties as assigned by department manager. Provides courier service for other departments as requested.
  • Assists and reports to department manager any incidents related to security as required.
  • Read and comply with established policies within the department and hospital.

Qualifications:
High School level (12th Grade) of knowledge in reading, writing, and arithmetic; understands and communicates detailed instructions and procedures.

The technician must have a certification in one or more of the following areas, or three years of contracting experience in one or more of the following areas. Electrical distribution, emergency generation equipment, plumbing systems, steam boiler operation, chilled water plant, related water chemistry for steam, open and closed loop water circulation systems, heating ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, refrigeration systems, Carpentry, Cameras Systems, Door Security, Building Management Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, and Grounds Maintenance.

This position requires a valid driver’s license and completion of a motor vehicle record report as driving a company vehicle is required.
