The Pre-Employment Specialist is the Project Manager for Pre-Employment Services and works directly with individuals with disabilities to help them prepare for employment. This person is DSP and ACRE certified, and will achieve any additional training or certifications necessary including progressive employment models, career planning, small group coaching, job club implementation, and Goodwill NNE Boot Camp models. The Pre-Employment Specialist works to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment goals and to support their successful transition into the workforce. Key competencies include excellent oral and written communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, follow-through, coaching, and the ability to network with a diverse employer population.

Through groups and individualized programs, individuals will attend Job Club, Customized Employment and/or Pre-Employment Boot Camp, The Pre-Employment Specialist will:

  • Support employment exploration and discovery regarding employment.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for individuals with disabilities to improve their job skills and readiness for employment.
  • Conduct assessments to determine an individual’s skills, abilities and interests to determine their vocational goals and needs.
  • Assist with the development of customized employment plans that identify the skills and training needed to achieve the individual’s employment goals.
  • Provide counseling and guidance to individuals with disabilities to help them overcome barriers to employment.
  • Assist with navigating the vocational rehabilitation application and employment search process.
  • Collaborate with employers to identify job opportunities and promote the hiring of individuals with disabilities.

Policies and Procedures

  • Follow designated policies and procedures, including Employee Handbook.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding individuals as defined by SKILLS, Inc. policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report concerns regarding the health, safety, or welfare of individuals or coworkers.
  • Follow MANDT procedures to de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
  • Use established procedures to handle budget and funds.
  • Uphold safety standards, including driver safety, community safety, and home safety.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • DSP Certification or ability to become certified
  • ACRE Certification or ability to become certified
  • Consistent and reliable work history
  • Proficient in computer usage including Email, spreadsheets and data entry
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and acceptable driving record
