Founded in 1996, Gastroenterology Associates, P.A. is a specialty medical practice which provides advanced evaluation of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, pancreas, biliary system, and liver. We have eight physicians serving our community, all which are board-certified in gastroenterology. Our physicians are GI specialists who are experts in endoscopy and committed to delivering high quality medical care in a comfortable, caring environment. Gastroenterology Associates features a state-of-the-art endoscopy facility that is recognized for outstanding quality measures by the American Society for gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). It is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC), and is licensed by Medicare and the State of North Carolina. The physicians of Gastroenterology Associates are affiliated with Frye Regional Medical Center, and Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Job Summary:
Responsible for assuring appropriate insurance verification, prior approvals, and all authorization requirements are obtained for the patient prior to procedure. Responsible for effectively handling patient questions regarding benefits prior to procedure. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
Education:
- High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of medical office experience in billing, pre-certification and authorization.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of insurance carrier guidelines
- Understanding of pre-certification and authorization processes
- Knowledge and understanding of billing practices in clinic and outpatient setting
- Working knowledge of office computer systems
Abilities:
- Review demographic, billing and insurance information for accuracy
- Verify insurance eligibility and make necessary corrections
- Obtain precertification and authorization
- Communicate detailed policy benefits to patients
- Timely response to phone calls and correspondence relating to patient accounts
- Demonstrate professional communication and customer service skills
- Keep up to date with changing insurance guidelines.
- Ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations
- Ability to navigate insurance carrier websites
- Ability to communicate effectively and attain desired results
- Read and interpret medical records.
- Assist in other billing areas as needed
