Description:Teachers are the key persons in our educational program. Their day to day relationship with the students, parents, knowledge of subject matter, teaching ability and understanding og the educational philosophy of The Guild for Exceptional Children determine the ultimate success of our education program.
Essential Functions
- Instruct Students
- Comprehensively assess students cognitively and affectively
- Write IEPs according to instructions and mandates
- Provide meaningful activities that develop individual potentials
- Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning
- Prepare instructional materials and plan lessons
- Plan, review and update curriculum both on IEP and curriculum levels
- Prepare educational summaries, discharge summaries and transcripts
- Work with students, parents, therapists, psychologist and interdisciplinary teams
- Maintain individual student records, including IEP and Cumulative record card and progress reports
- Develop and maintain a clean, safe and viable learning area
- Keep accurate attendance registers
- Submit reports on a timely basis
- Directly supervise all assigned classroom personnel (aides, assistant teachers, volunteers and Teacher Interns)
- Responsible for direct contact with parents, conducting all IEP conferences in the classroom in an open, friendly and constructive manner
- Participate in faculty meetings, team meetings with other personnel, share approaches to common problems with colleagues and parents , and to communicate suggestions and criticisms through proper channels
- Participate in professional organizations and participate in professional conferences
- Attend in-service courses, workshops and seminars as appropriate
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of early childhood development, approved behavior management plans and emergency management
- Knowledge of and ability to follow Agency and departmental policies and procedures
- Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with staff and parents
- Ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to maintain accurate records and pay close attention to detail
- Good arithmetic skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Knowledge of and ability to use a computer and work in a Microsoft Office/Excel environment
- Ability to work independently and use appropriate judgment

- New York State Certified Special Education Birth-Grade 2
- Works with developmentally delayed preschoolers 3-5 yrs. old
$2000.00 Sign on bonus, paid over 6 months
