This position is a member of the Central Process Technology organization, supporting all Americas processes. It reports to the Project Development Manager as part of corporate technology, located in King of Prussia, PA. Subject Matter Expert for one or more areas of technology including, but not limited to solids handling processes, dust safety and packaging.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

Represent Arkema at Engineering, Procurement & Construction Contractor (EPC) office as main project liaison. 20%

  • Answer EPC questions, consulting with Arkema team as needed and leading responses.
  • Make technical decisions at EPC on behalf of Arkema.
  • Approve design output from EPC, including but not limited to:
  • PFD and material balance
  • PID
  • Equipment lists and specifications
  • Process and safety device calculations including dust protection systems
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Own the translation of HAZOP and DHA items into design closure.
  • Support development of control strategy.


Support process conceptual studies. 20%

  • Interface with global R&D and process technology leading to piloting and other scale up activities, process technology development and subsequent process engineering.
  • Run pilot studies at Arkema’s facility or at vendors.
  • Conduct basic engineering work and process analysis on complex plant unit operations.
  • Study process alternatives and develop preliminary economics analysis.
  • Utilize process modeling software such as Aspen and interpret data to generate solutions.


Prepare process engineering packages. 40%

  • Prepare PFD’s, P&ID’s, heat and material balances, etc.
  • Prepare equipment lists, specification sheets, etc. for assigned projects.
  • Use knowledge of safety regulations and environmental issues, and incorporate them into engineering work.
  • Team lead PHA and facilitate DHA Reviews. Lead action closure for HAZOP and DHA.


Support plants. 20%

  • Coordinate process tests with plants and provide oversight.
  • Develop and lead small capital projects and provides process support to larger capital projects.
  • Support operations. Give direction to hourly workers and hold accountable for results.
  • Assist operations as needed during deviations; use analysis skills for troubleshooting, turnaround support, etc.
  • Will assume the role of team leader or subject matter expert as needed and may establish priorities for employees or teams.


Context & Environment


  • Will require domestic and occasional international travel (up to 40% depending on project activity).
  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc.
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents


Required Education/Qualifications/Work Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Higher degree candidates (MS ChE) as well as higher experience level candidates will be able to provide higher value in this role.
  • Training or on the job experience in solids handling and packaging and/or aptitude to develop further in this discipline.
  • Additional certifications, such as lean six sigma are preferred.
  • More than 10 years industrial experience in multiple process engineering/technology roles and/or businesses is required.
  • Experience in supporting process safety activities at a site is preferred.

  • Is technically recognized and respected an expert in technology and its application across multiple BU sites/processes. Demonstrated track record of successfully solving problems and meeting deadlines. Solutions and projects are expected to work reliably.
  • Effectively organize and plan work, working with little supervision and sets own priorities and removes barriers, for self and other employees.
  • Expert in solids processes, such as filtration, drying, conveying, grinding, sieving, packaging, etc.
  • DHA facilitator. SME for dust safeguard protection systems. Deep understanding of PSM/RMP core elements.
  • Actively networks and consults with members within and outside business units and is a focal point for issue resolution.
  • May provide technical leadership on targeted areas across BUs. Actively participates in and/or leads corporate initiative(s). Expert in messaging, presentations and reporting to BU audience with message on target and always appropriate to audience.
  • Efficient use of six sigma tools and develops project opportunities based on data analysis. Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching other engineers to use appropriate data analysis tools.
  • Applies know-how gained from previous assignments and shares/uses information with other plants to solve problems.
  • Can develop and implement solutions to close compliance items for the multiple sites, with effective cause analysis & gap closure concepts.
  • Leads efforts to develop and analyze options in a capital project by assessing all considerations (technical, financial, safety, environmental). Well-versed in stage gate and coaches less experienced engineers to use the methodology. May participate in CAPEX planning for BU.
  • Experience working with engineering contractors and able to represent Arkema in a design office.
  • Deep understanding of technology, unit operations, and control technology at multiple sites. Able to apply expertise with independence across BUs. Contributes to new Arkema methods and tools.
  • Has network outside BU and externally (e.g. AICHE, CCPS, vendors, universities, etc.). Mentors and teaches less experienced engineers, creating links with technical centers in other Arkema geographies.
  • Contributes to intellectual property activities.
  • Expert in completion of CSR (ESG) deliverables for projects and plant support programs. Knowledge and application of CSR related technologies.
  • Continues own external training and learning (e.g. AICHE courses) and/or maintains PE certification. Documented customized development plan to career direction.
  • Expert in multiple manufacturing digital tools and their application. Mentors others outside on digital tools. Educated on new digital tools in industry and suggests new tools to Arkema.
