We have an immediate opening for a Principal Environmental Engineer – Capital Projects Site Compliance and Permitting, within our Environmental Center of Excellence (COE) and part of the America’s Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) team. This is a multi-media environmental permitting position responsible for supporting various permitting activities and project execution elements for projects in the State of Louisiana and will hybrid based at a project site location, near Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a vital part of a large project planned by Air Products in Louisiana, which will be an integral piece in pursuing net-zero greenhouse gas emission goals, and supporting the availability of low-CI hydrogen that will be a key part of the global clean energy transition. As permitting/construction is completed for the large project in Louisiana, this position will transition into a role managing on-going operational environmental compliance associated with the project elements, essentially allowing for full involvement in shaping, and ownership of, the project’s overall environmental program.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit permit applications and conduct permit negotiations with regulatory agencies.
- Provide project leadership with data-driven strategies and abilities to analyze requirements, identify trends, collaborate with stakeholders, and lead cross-functional teams to develop practical solutions that improve SHEQ performance.
- Build, maintain and improve programs across all environmental media (air, water, waste, drinking water) to comply with environmental regulations, permit requirements, internal policies and standards for project site construction activities and operations.
- Develop, maintain, and improve environmental compliance tools, monitoring, sampling, and testing programs to demonstrate compliance with regulatory and permit limits.
- Direct and train facility personnel in environmental compliance permit and regulatory requirements and tools for compliance.
- Prepare and maintain waste profiles and secure approvals from waste disposal facilities, which include waste disposal activities during construction and commissioning phases.
- Prepare and submit environmental compliance reports to local, state, and federal agencies.
- Monitor agency rulemaking and analyze emerging regulations to determine impact on plant operations.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline. A focused or advanced degree in environmental engineering or science is desirable but not required.
- Approximately 5-7 years of experience in environmental regulatory permitting and/or compliance support with knowledge/involvement in all media, e.g., air, water, waste.
- Experience with defining and securing environmental permits/approvals and identifying and implementing regulatory requirements for facilities is desirable.
- Strong organizational (e.g., project management), interpersonal, and communication (e.g., presentation, negotiation, etc.) skills and a work process orientation. Ability to reduce complex technical and regulatory elements into language that non-technical people can understand.
- Experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and/or Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is desirable.
- Training experience is necessary as communicating compliance requirements to facility personnel is an essential element of the position.
- Must be computer savvy using existing programs and systems and able to quickly learn and adapt to new ones. These include but are not limited to the Microsoft Office Suite (including strong Excel skills), SAP Compliance and Event Management, various regulatory agency systems for compliance (e.g., Tier II submit, CDX net-DMRs, TRI, etc.).
