POSITION SUMMARY
The process engineering position is responsible for provide hands-on engineering support to achieve timely resolution to manufacturing performance issues. This position oversees the development, setup, monitoring, adjustment, and efficient operations of machines and auxiliary equipment pertaining to Whitney Blake manufacturing operations. This position is also responsible for the training of technical staff and Cell Leaders in the proper use and maintenance of equipment and to seek ways to increase efficiencies through increase throughput, downtimes and scrap reductions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide hands-on engineering support to achieve a timely resolution to manufacturing performance issues.
  • Apply sound troubleshooting methodologies in the investigation and corrective action of root cause as they pertain to equipment, instrumentation, processes and/or product. PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) deployment is important.
  • Utilize basic data analysis methodologies with production performance data collection initiatives throughout the manufacturing business to identify productivity improvement and waste reduction opportunities (process maps, SPC, process capability, trending, etc.).
  • Analyze & improve existing and new manufacturing processes for efficiency, safety and quality using Process Flow diagrams, PFMEA, poka-yoke fixturing, and other methods.
  • Optimize production machinery by tuning the performance of existing equipment & process parameters.
  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of manufacturing preventative/predictive maintenance systems.
  • Provide concepts, prototyping, designs and solutions for new and/or existing manufacturing equipment, new product and line extension business opportunities.
  • Prepare and process documentation to include specification changes, change request forms, validation documents, deviations, standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Manage validation projects; Develops protocols, test plan and executes validations, Analyzes data and draws conclusions, Directs technicians involved with validations and product testing.
  • Provide manufacturing technical assistance to the Quality group in support of manufacturing non-conformances, CAPA resolution and customer complaint investigations.
  • Work closely with manufacturing department to develop, coordinate, and implement technical instruction and direction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Understanding of company policies and business practices including industry standards, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO requirements, health and safety.
Project management competence with experience in plan development, execution and follow through.
  • Knowledge of statistics and analytical tools (DOE, FMEA), ability to understand interactions (cause and effects) between equipment/process/product and to draw sound conclusions from the data.
  • Ability to work on complex mechanical systems.
  • Utilization of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
  • Team player capable of successfully interacting at all levels with customers, peers, seniors & subordinates in the successful resolution of day-to-day business issues.
  • Capable of influencing key stakeholders, collecting critical inputs and facilitate collective solutions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Possess the ability to teach others effectively.
  • Ability to use management tools in normal job function to handle multiple tasks with proper prioritization, ability to be able to give direction and instruction to others.
  • Capability to work independently, handle changing priorities and short time constraints.
  • Show strong work ethic necessary for leading by example, miss work rarely and will be always well-presented.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree for a candidate who can demonstrate capable of successfully fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a high volume manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years’ experience as a process, equipment and/or tooling engineer.
  • Lean or 6-sigma training with demonstrated application experience.
  • Electrical/electronic systems and PLC technologies is a plus.
  • Project team leadership, preferred.
  • Ability to work hours, as required, that are appropriate to completing projects and tasks on schedule.
COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Proficient computer skills: MS Windows, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Project management software such as MS Project is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software applications (e.g. Solidworks, AutoCad, Pro-E, etc.).
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS
  • No direct supervisory requirements
  • Training and project leadership.
  • Responsible for workflow, training for new employees, and answering job-related questions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Manufacturing: Work involves use of manufacturing equipment or close proximity to equipment. May be exposure to some routine manufacturing related substances.
  • Recurring physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, crouching and use of tools or computer.
  • Location: Corporate Headquarters in Bellows Falls, Vermont.
  • General Hours: 7 am – 4 pm (or as appropriate to accomplish customer satisfaction)
  • Key Stakeholders: Executive Leadership Team, Sales, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing
  • Limited travel < 15%.
