Position Summary

The Program Manager of the MLIS@Denver Program will manage administrative aspects of the online MLIS program, contribute to the program development and growth, support online students, and maintain regular communication with 2U staff. The responsibilities include program management, admissions, recruitment, advisement, class scheduling, adjunct instructor hiring, and communication with faculty and students. We are interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion through this role and are passionate about educating future library professionals. The Program Manager of the MLIS@Denver Program will work collaboratively with the Department Chair, LIS faculty, and the program’s Administrative Services Associate. This position reports to the Chair of the Research Methods and Information Science Department.

This position is part-time, non-benefited, working an average of 20 hours per week, not exceeding 1,000 hours annually.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong management skills to successfully manage the online program
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, adjunct instructors, staff, administration, and 2U staff
  • Strong organizational skills to plan and organize program course schedules and appoint instructors
  • Demonstrated familiarity and experience with fully online programs and the needs of remote students
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge of academic advising and student success
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, plan work within larger contexts of program goals and work independently.

Essential Functions

  • Support the MLIS@Denver program in alignment with the mission of the college and in alignment with the accreditation requirements
  • Manage and maintain a schedule of courses for each academic quarter, including summer
  • Recruit and appoint instructors from the adjunct pool and core faculty
  • Assign faculty advisors in consultation with the Department Chair
  • Advise online students in the MLIS@Denver program
  • Monitor student progress and address student concerns
  • Review coursework plans and graduation requirements
  • Coordinate internship placements in collaboration with the internship coordinator
  • Assist with the review of applications in collaboration with the MCE Office of Admissions
  • Assist with organizing the Immersion Program
  • Participate in regular and as-needed meetings with 2U staff, including Core Meetings, Leadership Meetings, and meetings with Curriculum Team, Placement Team, Student Success Team, Admission Team, Career Services, and Marketing Team
  • Participate in program overview webinars
  • Participate in admitted student webinars
  • Assist with updating Handbooks for the online program
    • Student Handbook
    • Capstone Handbook
    • Culminating Internship Handbook
  • Revise and update MLIS@Denver Portfolio
  • Communicate with the Department Chair and LIS faculty

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of professional experience in libraries, archives, or other cultural heritage or information organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in library and information science
  • Prior experience in course scheduling and instructor appointments
  • Prior experience in teaching online courses and advising remote students
  • Experience working within a university setting
  • Professional history of managing people or projects
  • Expertise in culturally and linguistically diverse education and social justice.

  • Standard office environment or remote work
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time

Hourly Range

The hourly pay range for this position is $26.00-$29.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
