If so, the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) is seeking highly motivated career-oriented professional to fill one full-time vacancy in its Tidewater regional office for the position of Program Support Technician. This position serves as the first point of contact for our internal and external customers. Not inclusive of this list, this position will be responsible for assisting multi-lingual callers/visitors over the phone and in person, all aspects of administering and scheduling maintenance of pool vehicles, preparing, sorting, and distributing agency mail, ensuring confidential record keeping and data entry as well as providing administrative support to employees and agency programs.
The Tidewater Regional Office:
The Tidewater Regional Office is located in Norfolk, Virginia. The office provides service to businesses and employees in Hampton Roads and on the Eastern Shore. The region includes the counties of Accomack, Gloucester, Greensville, Isle of Wight, James City, Mathews, Northampton, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, and York, and the cities of Chesapeake, Emporia, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working in a front-line administrative assistant role in an office setting; involving customer service to the public while performing various receptionist, administrative, and program support tasks.
- Experience and/or training in computer applications such as databases and Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent customer service skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain a professional rapport with a wide variety of external customers as well as internal customers at all levels in the organization.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to take the initiative to work independently and as a team member with minimal supervision.
- A high school diploma or the equivalent training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual fluency speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

- Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hiring or within 30 days of hiring.
- Must be able to work public service hours M-F, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity that includes, but is not limited to climbing stairs and ladders, bending, walking up and down inclines, occasionally lifting and carrying loads up to 30 pounds, etc.
- The selected candidate must pass a criminal background investigation, and successfully serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment if beginning employment as an original hire or re-employment.
Special Instructions:
The starting salary is $44,681 annually, plus the State’s benefits package. Interview candidates may be required to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance of work.
