Summary of Position


Under the direction of a manager or director, coordinates and provides technical support for the development, implementation and evaluation of a small operational or functional projects(s) or assists a project manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of a large project. Oversees daily work of project staff to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished according to project guidelines. Serves as the internal consultant on business requirements for projects and manages information flow between project members, management, and others. Serves as liaison with external organizations.

Essential Functions


  • Provides project management skills, consultation and support for technical, clinical or administrative projects typically within a single functional area but involving matrix relationships with other areas. Projects are directly related to the management or general business operations of the company. Works with manager to establish action plans and identify appropriate pathways and timelines for project implementation and completion. Recommends staffing needs for each phase of the project. Assists in recruitment and assignment of personnel and resources as needed.
  • Serves as functional leader for project or assigned project tasks to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed timeframe and budget. Oversees the completion of delegated tasks and monitors the use of project resources.
  • Coordinates and facilitates activities needed to fulfill assigned project objectives. Identifies need to modify schedules and plans and works with management to ensure project goals are met. Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
  • Conducts informal cost-effectiveness analysis and may work with outside contractors to conduct formal cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, or decision analysis. May assist in preparing and maintaining project budget. May produce monthly variance reports for project.
  • Provides managerial support in project development activities, including needs assessment, prioritization, operational analyses and feasibility studies.
  • Identifies primary and peripheral customers and ensures needs are met during the planning, implementation, testing and evaluation phase of project.
  • Researches, analyzes and presents findings on potential impact of new technologies or systems on project completion. Identifies economies and presents alternative methods of project completion to management as appropriate. Recommends quality improvements, enhancements, and cost-effective alternatives.
  • Represents management on intra-practice and/or cross-organizational teams and projects as assigned.
  • Prepares reports and updates for management on progress. May prepare and deliver formal presentations on project status or lead group meetings. Creates and/or updates written material and documentation related to project work. When applicable, may assist in user training and project rollout communications.
  • Maintains on-going relationships with outside agencies, consultants and contractors as needed.
  • May participate in the planning of short- and long-range goals.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements


Education: Bachelors degree in business administration, health care administration, public health or equivalent training. Masters degree preferred.
Skills and Experience: At least 5-7 years of general management experience with exposure to project management , program development and program planning. Background in health care preferred. Must possess comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization. Requires strong organizational, research and management skills. Ability to review and synthesize data. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams. Ability to develop and execute complex work plans with substantial independence. Must possess excellent analytic, interpersonal and communication skills.

Busy office environment with frequent deadlines and interruptions.
