Function under the supervision of the Manager of Support Services to perform duties related to the security of Moody Bible Institute’s Chicago campus. Default assignment, seated at a desk in a high rise building in Chicago’s near north neighborhood. The building is administrative and classroom space.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor building lobby entrances, uphold access control procedures, and ensure building security.
  • Observe, respond and report life safety concerns, criminal activity, suspicious activity, or other incidents that effect the building under the direction of a patrol/shift supervisor
  • Coordinate and cooperate with emergency services that respond to the building
  • Acknowledge, greet, and assist residents and guests as they enter the building, maintaining an approachable and professional atmosphere at the desk at all times. Assist the Institute community’s needs by directing them to the appropriate internal staff or departments or providing them with contact information for outside agencies
  • Supervisor part-time student desk workers on projects and responsibilities, keeping them informed and accountable for all desk procedures and providing up-to-date information:
    • Regularly review general order related to the desk and recommend modifications to the Lieutenant of Support Services
    • Provide initial and remedial training for part-time desk workers
    • Ensure part-time employees are consistently following general orders related to the desk
    • Maintain orderly desk area and cashbox
  • Perform regular security functions such as monitoring CCTV cameras, communicating via 2-way radio, and process department incident reports.
  • Any specific duties as assigned by the Chief of Public Safety or the Manager of Support Services

Minimum Requirements

  • An associate’s degree or two years of security related experience
  • Ambulatory ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to respond to and control various alarm and emergency related incidents
  • Sufficient writing skills to prepare incident reports
  • Sufficient human relation skills to resolve confrontation, affect behavior of others, assert oneself, and convey a positive image of the department.
  • Able to work in the US legally without sponsorship.

Preferred Requirements

  • Security experience in the area of higher education
  • Familiarity with Blackboard Connect applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint applications
  • Customer Service experience
  • 21 years of age

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In addition, individuals will use security equipment such as video monitors, 2-way radio equipment, and security keys and electronic fobs.

This is a part-time position which is typically scheduled 28 hours per week. This position is seated most of the day, but will require regular standing and walking. No travel is expected for this position.
