The Director of Racing is responsible for all aspects of the Radnor Hunt Races race events. This position reports to the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art’s Associate Director of Fundraising Events and Sponsorships. The contractual position entails the following activities and duties:

  • Serves as the key leader of race-related activities at RHR
  • Organizes all race day activities, including equestrian aspects of the NSA-sanctioned races regularly including communication with owners, trainers and riders participating in RHR, and coordinates with the lead line pony race and side saddle race, which are separately managed
  • Serves as primary contact with the National Steeplechase Association (NSA)
  • Secures race day officials, veterinarians, ambulances (both human and equine), and farriers
  • Manages and coordinates race day requirements including course set up, race announcer, crowd control fencing
  • Oversees racecourse maintenance and construction/maintenance of jumps
  • Leads a pre-race walkthrough to determine needed repairs and maintenance and ensures course conditions are satisfactory
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director, Fundraising Events and Sponsorships to ensure a successful event
  • Manages the schedule of races with NSA input
  • Informs the RHR Committee’s Liaison Chair regarding contact with owners, trainers, officials
  • Attends four meetings of the RHR committee
  • Ensures the safety of all horses and riders throughout the event
  • Liaises with the Radnor Hunt stable manager and the Radnor Hunt and others as appropriate
  • Assists in the creation of a race day program book, including detail on each race
  • Participates in post-race conditions evaluation and creates a post-event summary including recommendations to improve the event
  • Additional duties as needed

The ideal candidate for this part-time contracted position will possess experience managing similar events, knowledge of equine activities, and will be able to work with volunteers and committees.
