Radar and Combat Systems Engineer Job at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL)

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) Laurel, MD 20723

Description

Are you interested in defining the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA’s) next-generation radars’ capabilities while incorporating multi-domain sensing to expand the reach and efficiency of these systems? Do you enjoy working and collaborating in a dynamic environment with a highly motivated team of engineers, physicists, and computer scientists with experience in radar signal processing, algorithm development, and tracking? If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

The new Multi-Domain Sensing Architectures & Data Fusion Group (A2G) is seeking a Radar and combat systems engineer to define the next generation of sensing for MDA. You will help identify system architecture capabilities needed to ensure successful engagement against advanced missile systems, follow the development of various radar systems from inception through fielding and lead a team supporting end item verification. You will explore scenarios where cross-domain sensing may potentially enhance the effectiveness of standalone systems or provide a benefit to the overall missile defense system performance. Your work will seek to optimize MDA’s Sea-Based X-band (SBX) Radar's effectiveness and identify potential benefits of closer coordination with the newly developed Long Range Discrimination Radar. You will also be expected to interface between the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense program and the MDA Sensors Directorate (MDA/SN) to ensure the successful fielding of a new sensor concept for the Aegis Ashore system in Guam.

A successful candidate should be an inclusive leader with at least 15 years of experience in Systems Engineering for Navy Combat Systems, Weapons Control Systems and Sensor Integration. The ideal candidate will be an expert on the SBX radar and have experience in homeland missile defense.
