We Require
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
Two years of experience in roadway/highway, bridge, sign, or drawbridge maintenance operations, or Public Safety work such as police, fire, emergency medical, incident responder, hazmat responder, or towing
-
A valid Arizona driver’s license attainable at the time of hire with at least one year of driving experience
-
This position is on call 24/7. Candidates must be flexible and able to work all shifts, including rotating shifts, working weekends, and holidays. Employees can be assigned to any shift, with any combination of days off, determined by the Department's needs

Must have or be able to obtain the below certifications within one year of hire: Hazardous Materials First Responders course, American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATTSA) or International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification, National Traffic Incident Responder Course, IS-700 Introduction to the National Incident Management System, ICS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System, and CPR with AED Certification

Job Contributions

Provide immediate response to any incidents or hazardous situations that jeopardize the safe and efficient movement of traffic, including safe vehicle positioning and facilitating expeditious exiting for other first responders

Assesses the scene on arrival and decides on the safest traffic flow for the incident. Organizes any equipment, personnel, or hazard control needs

Coordinates with requesting law enforcement agencies and TMC regarding lane closure, road closure traffic control, and detour management
-
Installs and maintains temporary traffic incident management control devices for a safe, quick clearance at traffic incident scenes, according to MUTCD)
-
Completes Incident Command Forms, responder incident reports, damage claims and other incident related documents
-
Inspects lights, signs, stands, cones, and sign spacing daily to ensure proper traffic control set-ups.

Provides minor road service assistance to motorists

Provides traffic control set-ups for special events and details throughout Maricopa County as needed

Photograph and document property and roadway damage and generates work orders for maintenance and repair

Assists in the repair of minor roadway surfaces and county property
Working Conditions

Position works primarily outdoors and is subject to working in temperatures above 90 degrees very frequently and may be subject to temperatures below 40 degrees

May be exposed to chemicals, fumes, smoke, dust, high noise level, bright lighting

May be subject to dangerous environments, interruptions, time pressures, high volumes of work, handling multiple or complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, frequently changing tasks, decision making, accuracy, concentration/vigilance, teamwork and working in close proximity of others

Physical essential functions include: sitting, standing, walking, driving a vehicle, speaking, hearing, seeing, reading, distinguishing colors, bending/kneeling, reaching, twisting, climbing, crawling, crouching, balancing, wearing protective gear, and precise dexterity
