The Job You Will Perform:
Position/role: This position is needed to provide leadership across Region operations in maintaining a high level of employee engagement to achieve excellence in supplying fiber to International Paper facilities. Manage the Fiber Procurement operations at 7 facilities supporting IP’s pulp and paper mills in North America (West Region Fiber Operations). Fiber Supply Managers, Finance & Operations Manager, and Fiber Quality Manager report directly to the Regional Manager (9 direct reports). The position will be responsible for approximately 60 salaried employees. Serve as key liaison between Global Fiber Supply and the manufacturing facilities for two-way communications, procurement execution, and talent management of the Fiber Supply organizations.

This position serves as a key member of the Global Fiber Supply Lead Team

Key products/services/outputs oversight and direction of fiber purchasing, contract administration, implementation and compliance to meet annual cost reduction objectives.

Key external customers include fiber suppliers, woodyard contractors, and State Forestry Associations.

Key internal customers include Mill Lead Team, Mill Production and Woodyard teams, Corporate Operations and EHS&S groups.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide safety leadership to the fiber teams and ensure employee adherence to all Global Fiber Supply and IP safety requirements.
  • Manage fiber procurement of 21MM tons of fiber with a total spend of $750MM/yr.
  • Resolve procurement issues across regional facilities
  • Ensure goal alignment between manufacturing facilities and Global Fiber Supply
  • Ensure objectives of Fiber Managers align with Global Fiber Supply as well as mill priorities and manage accountability for delivering results.
  • Ensure organizational awareness and compliance with fiber procurement and finance policies
  • Ensure adherence to IP Global Responsible Fiber Sourcing Policy
  • Execute the Performance and Development Roadmap for the Global Fiber Supply Managers and their respective teams.
  • Develop and maintain bench-strength analysis and succession plan
  • Champion effective 2-way communications between Global Fiber Supply and mills
  • Execute Global Fiber Supply diversity and sustainability initiatives
  • Develop and implement savings initiatives
  • The position will require 25-40% travel.

Experiences or education requirements

  • Bachelor degree or higher required
  • Successful leadership experience, including individual and team development
  • Fiber Procurement, mill manufacturing or professional sourcing experience required (5-10 years preferred)
  • Fiber Supply sourcing and strategy development experience desired
  • Demonstrated experience/ability in managing through influence
  • Has demonstrated the ability to make contributions to the organization at progressive levels
