TRAVEL HYGENIST

Smaller private practice office with low turnover. Long-term staff.

We are looking for another helpful team player to join us.

We travel to Barrow from September through May, for one week out of the month. We have high standards in that we take pride in giving our patients great service and quality care.

We would like to hire a hygienist that wants to stay in the position long-term and develop relationships with our patients. Many of our patients have become family to us and we want a hygienist that enjoys the patient-provider relationship.

You should have deep knowledge of relevant health and safety rules and a good eye for oral diseases and anomalies. If you have a steady hand and a fantastic bedside manner, we would like to meet you. We pride our practice on excellent customer service. Good communication skills are essential. New grads are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities:

Hygiene treatment planning and how to make appointments/scheduling

Ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible before their examination
Sterilize dental instruments and operatories.
Conduct oral mouth screenings and health history screenings
Identify conditions like gingivitis, periodontitis, oral cancer and caries.
Clean and help protect patients’ teeth (e.g. remove plaque, tartar and apply fluoride)
Educate patients of all ages on proper teeth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
Give instructions to patients after operations or other dental procedures
Take X-rays, intra oral photos or dental impressions
Assist dentists with selecting appropriate treatments for various diseases (including oral cancer)
Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
Monitor/restock supplies, update order lists if supplies are running low

Skills:

Proven experience as Dental Hygienist
In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA)
Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment
Outstanding communication skills
A patient and friendly personality
Attention to detail
Stamina to meet the physical demands of the job

Required:

Diploma in Dental Hygiene
Valid license to practice in Alaska

Nitrous Certification

Local Anesthetic Certification
