About the Work Unit

The Office of Research and Statistics (ORS) exists to fulfill DCJ’s statutory requirements to administer a statistical analysis program for the purpose of collecting and analyzing statewide criminal justice statistics, to analyze state activities and problems related to the administration of criminal justice, to develop comprehensive plans of action for the improvement of criminal justice in Colorado, and for crime and delinquency control. As such, the ORS plans, secures grants and other funding and conducts criminal justice research projects. The unit collects and disseminates information and analyzes criminal justice policy, activities and problems to assist the General Assembly, the governor’s office, and other state and local agencies and to enhance the quality of criminal justice at all levels of government in the state.
About the Job

This position will provide customer service to law enforcement agencies submitting contacts and use of force data for the Law Enforcement Integrity data collection. They will assist with the quality assurance process, handle errors, and work with agencies to fix the issues. They will collaborate in responses to requests for information with the statistical analyst and unit manager. The position will need to gain an understanding of the technical processes required to create and submit a file that meets agency specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Respond to requests for assistance from law enforcement agencies and their data management vendors regarding issues they are facing in collecting and reporting data. Ensure law enforcement agencies and vendors have updated information and specifications for the reporting system. Regular or as needed email-blasts/communication to stakeholders. Managing agency and vendor contact lists.
Run regular reports to do quality assurance checks on monthly submissions from law enforcement. Collaborate with statistical analyst to develop methods to identify outliers and errors so further research on the data quality issues and communication with law enforcement can be timely and accurately conveyed to agencies and vendors.
Respond to requests from internal and external stakeholders regarding data availability, collaborate with statistical analyst on extracting and preparing data to fulfill requests. Through collaboration with manager and public information officer, ensure that data privacy rules are adhered to prior to the release of information to external entities.
Collaborate with the statistical analyst on preparing annual reports and regular updates to data visualizations using Tableau. Assist in the statistical analyst with report writing to ensure that the presentation of data and accompanying narrative accurately reflect the findings and limitations in the results.
Create trainings and instructional documents to ensure that law enforcement agencies and vendors have the most accurate information on definitions and reporting requirements. Include regular TA and LEA one-on-one training and creation of a customer service section on the website.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Five (5) years of professional experience in planning and executing assignments including project work plans, gathering, organizing, analyzing data and preparing reports of findings.

OR

One (1) year of professional experience in planning and executing assignments including project work plans, gathering, organizing, analyzing data and preparing reports of findings, AND a Bachelor's Degree in any field from an accredited institution.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, a fingerprint based criminal history search.
  • Must be Colorado resident at the time of application.
