Research Assistant Job at Carnegie Mellon University

The Chemical Engineering department at Carnegie Mellon is currently seeking a full-time Research Assistant for the Panagakos research lab. The tasks for this role, among others, include modeling complex systems with transport phenomena for membrane applications, setting up parallel simulations on desktop machines, clusters and supercomputers, retrieving, analyzing and reporting research results. The ideal candidate is an individual with an aptitude for independent research work.
The ideal candidate is someone with excellent knowledge of:

Multiphysics simulations. Both commercial and open-source software are welcome and will be considered. One of Comsol, ANSYS, and OpenFOAM is the least requirement.

Numerical methods, optimization machine learning and coding. We require at least Matlab and Python as programming languages and will appreciate knowledge of Fortran, C/C++ etc. and the desire to learn new concepts and languages.

Transport phenomena.

Separation processes, ideally membrane based and with emphasis on carbon capture.

The duration of this hire is until March 31, 2024 and is connected to work done at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).
