Job Summary
The Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases (IID) focuses on the biological, immunological, epidemiological and ecological aspects of viral, bacterial and protozoan diseases of animals and humans, including the vectors that transmit infectious agents. Research in the department's 12 laboratories is primarily focused on diseases of developing countries.

Position Description
Our lab is seeking a Research Assistant who will help to establish the laboratory's gnotobiotic facility and work on a range of projects investigating the role of the vaginal microbiome in immune homeostasis and in the pathogenesis of genital herpes virus infections. The successful candidate will receive training in lab work including molecular biology techniques and animal work (both conventional and gnotobiotic) leading up to BSL2 training. After training and supervised laboratory experience, the candidate will have the opportunity to pursue independent scientific projects within the realm of the laboratory's research focus, in addition to providing critical research infrastructure in the form of animal husbandry.
The Research Assistant will also support activities within the lab such as ordering, supplies maintenance, and purchasing. The successful candidate will be extremely organized, detail oriented and willing to work with animals. Experience with sequencing and flow cytometry is a plus, but enthusiasm and willingness to learn are essential.

- 1+ years of related work experience required; a combination of education and experience may be considered

- 1+ years of experience in laboratory research experience in molecular biology and immunology techniques such as flow cytometry, and cell & tissue culture

- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
