Job Title: Research Associate (Part-Time Position)

Background
UBMD Emergency Medicine is looking for part-time Research Associates (RAs) to work in various local emergency departments (EDs), predominately at Erie County Medical Center and Buffalo General Medical Center.

Research Associates directly approach emergency department patients and family members treated in the emergency department regarding enrollment in a variety of research studies and other projects. RA’s must be able to work in a clinical environment that is unpredictable and fast paced. RA’s will see patients in many clinical scenarios, some of which may be high stress or disturbing to some individuals. Prospective RA’s should consider whether the emergency department is a setting in which they feel comfortable working.

Daily Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:

• Identification of patients who meet ongoing research or other projects’ inclusion and exclusion criteria
• Consult with emergency department clinical staff to identify patients who are appropriate to approach for projects
• Obtain informed consent from patients and/or family members for participation in research when required
• Collection of relevant study data through patient interviews, medical record review, and/or telephone follow-up calls to patients
• Process samples according to protocol for storage or shipping using basic laboratory methods
• Assist emergency department staff with general duties

Minimum Qualification Required

• A high school diploma with some college level training
• Ability to interact with emergency department patients and staff in a professional and courteous manner
• Attention to detail and ability to consider and manage multiple projects at the same time
• Good verbal and written communication skills

Helpful Prior Experience

• Using and reviewing electronic medical records
• Past or current field of study related to healthcare or health sciences

Work Schedule
The Research Associate program provides 7-day a week coverage in the ED. A minimum 6-month commitment is required, but preference will be given to those who are available for longer periods. A commitment to a set schedule for between
8 and 30 hours per week is required. Transportation to and from the worksite and flexibility to work at any local emergency department is required.

Certification
CITI training required within 10 days of hire

Compensation
Starting pay $14.20 / Hr.
