Job Purpose:
The Research Coordinator I job is an entry-level research position that provides research and administrative support to the key members of the research team conducting addiction-related research. The Research Coordinator will help develop content for research projects, maintain databases, and conduct studies in accordance with research protocols. The Research Coordinator will also provide research and technical support for an NIH Center grant focused on developing and evaluating a mental health response training program for Native American communities, work with senior research staff on projects related to gambling, daily fantasy sports play, youth recovery from chemical dependency, and impaired driving, conduct data collection and sample maintenance activities for various projects, engage in literature reviews and related work, conduct in-person and telephone interviews (sometimes during off-hours and sometimes off-site), prepare applications and materials for human subjects research, develop website and online training materials, and collaborate with other Division researchers in writing a weekly newsletter disseminated via the Internet (www.basisonline.org).

Job - Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Author for The BASIS (www.basisonline.org) – must collaborate with other Division researchers in writing a weekly newsletter disseminated via the Internet
  • Prepare substantive aspects of IRB applications
  • Conduct literature and database reviews
  • Conduct analyses for various projects
  • Monitor disbursement of research participant incentives and honoraria
  • Complete telephone and in-person surveys and interviews with research participants
  • Coordinate sample maintenance activities for various projects
  • Assist in the development of research materials and online research survey instruments
  • Assist in the programming, expansion, and testing of the Division’s mental health screening and assessment tool, the Computerized Assessment and Referral System (CARS: www.carstrainingcenter.org)
  • Assist in the writing and editing of technical reports and manuscripts for publication or presentation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Education/Training: BA/BS degree is required.
Work Experience: The candidate for this position must have excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Google Suite. Experience working on research projects required. Experience with internet and scientific literature searches using tools such as PubMed or PsycInfo, and data analysis programs such as SPSS or R, preferred. Proficiency in computer programming and/org web design preferred. Candidate should have a strong interest in evidence-based public health outreach, healthy equity and discrimination, in general, and addiction-related evidence-based public health outreach, specifically.
Mental Skills : The candidate for this position must have highly developed organizational and research skills, and a demonstrated ability both to work both in a team environment and to function independently. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are also required.
