Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications
- At least one to two years of experience in conducting physical fitness tests is required.
- An undergraduate degree in biology, exercise science or physiology, nutrition, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field.
- Experience in conducting biochemistry lab assays would be beneficial when conducting research studies.
- Must be a team player and able to work a flexible schedule based on study needs.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
License/Certification Required
- CPR
- First Aid
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in related field or undergraduate degree with 1 to 2 plus years of experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as
Research Technician for the AppState Human Performance Laboratory at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC.
Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Research Support:
1. Ability to perform and/or assist with specialized research procedures in the Human Performance and/or Biochemistry labs.
2. Ability to perform body composition, cardio respiratory fitness, and muscle strength testing independently.
3. Ability to assist in subject recruitment and scheduling or subject testing.
4. Willing and/or able to handle human samples of blood, urine, fecal matter, and saliva for lab assays such as ELISA, HPL-C, and plate assays.
5. Phlebotomy certification is recommended.
Data/Information Collection:
1. Ability to ensure quality control during data collection in the Human Performance and/or Exercise Science Biochemistry labs.
2. Ability to organize and prepare data for analyses.
Lab/Subject Care:
1. Ability to comply with all Environmental Health and Safety policies.
2. Must be able to independently use lab equipment such as treadmills, cycle ergo-meters, and metabolic equipment, as well as Biochemistry lab equipment.
3. Ability to coordinate Human Subject testing with the Human Performance Lab.
