RESEARCHER II Job at University of Alabama at Birmingham
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Researcher II in Microbiology.
The goal of the studies performed in this lab are to extend our understanding of basic signaling mechanisms. These findings are then applied to complex problems in human disease. We are currently using what we have learned to understand interferon signaling in lupus, and designing novel vaccine strategies to prevent human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection, which is responsible for serious birth defects in children whose mothers are infected while pregnant.
General Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision:
- To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
- To collect, enter and summarize data.
- To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals. Runs assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.
- Collects, enters and summarizes data.
- Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes.
- Assists in the maintenance and trouble-shooting of lab equipment and supplies.
- Performs basic statistical data analysis.
- Performs fundamental statistical data analysis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $15.50 - $23.51 Hourly
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Experience in general lab maintenance and upkeep
- Molecular biology experience such as: PCR, plasmid preparations, protein expression in e.coli, insect cells and mammalian cells, and western blots
- Protein purification and SDS PAGE experience
- ELISA and flow cytometry experience
