Location: Residential Services - Bridges
Shift: 8:00a m – 4:30pm Pass Days: Sat & Sun

This position may be filled by Probation, Promotion, Demotion, Lateral Transfer or Detail to Special Duty. Preference may be given to permanent classified employees of Pinecrest Supports and Services Center.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree plus one year of professional level experience in health services, mental health treatment, developmentally disabled services, rehabilitation services, or special education.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six years of full-time work experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree.
Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:
A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
Experience in the care, guidance or training of the developmentally disabled; care, guidance or training of the physically disabled; care, guidance or training of the chemically dependent; or in psychiatric patient care will substitute for the college training on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
Two years of supervisory level sub professional experience in providing care, guidance or training to the developmentally disabled; care, guidance or training of the physically disabled; or care, guidance or training of the chemically dependent; or in psychiatric patient care will substitute for the required year of professional level experience.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:
To assist in directing activities of more than 50 individuals involving the safety, care, and training of those individuals with developmental disabilities.

Level of Work:
Manager.

Supervision Received:
General direction from a Residential Services Specialist 8 or other higher-level professional.

Supervision Exercised:
Direct-line over Residential Services Specialist 6 and other staff members.

Location of Work:
Department of Health and Hospitals, Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities, developmental centers-statewide.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from the Residential Services Specialist 6 by the presence of responsibility of assisting in directing, programmatically and administratively, in an individual safety, care and training program of more than 50 individuals.

Differs from Residential Services Specialist 8 by the absence of responsibility for directing, programmatically and administratively, in an individual safety, care and training program of more than 50 individuals.

Examples of Work

Assists in directing the individual safety, care, and training activities by coordinating the work of direct-care training staff involved in administrating individual treatment plans of care for developmentally disabled individuals.

Assists in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the units' training activities.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and accreditation regulations, standards, and guidelines.

Plans and conducts in-service training for individual care staff.

Participates in staff conferences relative to facility programs to coordinate individual safety, care and training activities.

Initiates and conducts investigations concerning possible neglect and abuse; analyzes findings and makes appropriate recommendations.

Participates in the development of active treatment plans for individuals and prepares monthly and quarterly review reports.

Administers the delivery of each individual's plan of care.

Prepares the 24-hour schedules of activities for individuals to ensure that coverage is adequate at all times.

Prepares and reviews reports of individual's resident progress and participates in conferences relative to individual care and training.

Assist in the development of policies and programs.

Represents the institution at conferences, meetings or public gatherings to explain agency program.
