Job Description
The Cath Lab RN is a health care professional that, through the utilization of specialized equipment and under the direction of a qualified cardiologist, performs procedures on adult patients resulting in accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment of congenital or acquired heart and/or peripheral vascular disease while maintaining maximum patient safety and comfort.
Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Duties
Provides patient care, patient/family education, patient monitoring, and drug administration in the cath lab (pre, intra and post procedure) under the direction of a Cardiologist to ensure patient safety and outcomes.
Performs/reviews and documents a pre-procedural patient assessment to obtain adequate information, communicate pertinent data to MD, and promote positive outcomes for patient
Evaluates patient response to diagnostic and interventional procedures and medications during cardiac catheterization
Acts as first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization procedures to assure completeness of case.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and products used for procedures to ensure its’ accuracy and safety.
Assist in the education process of new employees, mentors students and other healthcare professionals observing in the cath lab.
Assist in the development of performance improvement activities in the cath lab, to include ideas, data collection, data analysis and implementing change to ensure best practice in the cath lab.
Must be able to perform above duties based on “population served” standards /competencies to include age-specific and diverse patient types.
Qualifications
Education, Credentials, Licenses:
Must be RN, licensed in the state where work is being performed
Specialized Knowledge:
CPR certification, ACLS certification ECG rhythm interpretation, and knowledge of critical care medications
Kind and Length of Experience:
1-year critical care nursing experience, or 1 year ED nursing experience, or 1 year operating room nursing experience
