Sacristan/ Liturgical Assistant Job at Archdiocese of Detroit
LITURGICAL ASSISTANT/SACRISTAN
- IMMEDIATE OPPENING
- Part time position without benefits - approx. 12 hours a week or more when the funerals are celebrated.
- Position will require working on the weekends and Holy Days, and minimum of 3 days a week/2 hours daily
JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
- Opening and closing the church building as needed
- Setting up for and cleaning after the Masses - daily (3x/ a week), weekend (currently 3x), holy days, funeral Masses and special occasion Masses;
- Assisting the priest during the Masses (serving the Mass as needed and reading the readings - especially during daily Masses and funeral Masses);
- Recruiting volunteers and assisting with the church decorating - as needed;
- Keep inventory of liturgical and worship supply such as candles, hosts, etc - and inform the pastor when the new order needs to be placed.
- Take care of the liturgical vestments and other liturgy related items;
- With the help of the custodian staff care for the cleanliness of the church building and the Perpetual Adoration Chapel.
Job Qualifications:
- practicing, main stream Catholic in good standing, well familiar with various Catholic Liturgies and para-liturgical services and liturgical laws;
- flexible and people friendly individual able to work with others
- needs to be able to lift packages (25 pounds) and on emergency basis perform duties such as salting the sidewalks around the church entries, or operate a snow blower
Additional Info:
Daily Masses are currently celebrated on Tuesday, Thursday (
and Friday - when resumed) at 12 noon.
This is subject to change as the Family of Parishes project is implemented.
Funeral Masses are celebrated at 10 AM Monday through Friday
Weekend Masses are currently celebrated at 4 PM on Saturday and 9:30 and 11:30 AM on Sunday

There is currently a second person responsible for opening and closing the church on Saturdays.
