Safe Routes to School Specialist Job at Fairfax County Public Schools
Performs the full range of professional duties required to coordinate a variety of school-based programs supporting the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS); develops safe walking and bicycling routes using applicable technology; mentors school teams on best practices that promote safe bicycling and walking to and from school; works directly with parents, teachers, and school administrators to plan, organize, and implement local campaigns and projects at elementary and middle schools; acts as liaison between schools, community groups, and other organizations to provide information on SRTS events and activities.
Qualifications
Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business administration, planning, health and wellness, education, communications, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience in developing and implementing school-age programs, some of which shall have been in a lead capacity.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
- Knowledge of the Safe Routes to School program.
- Knowledge of applicable local, county, and state laws and regulations related to active transportation, such as bicycle laws.
- Familiarity with and ability to learn/use GIS or mapping software.
- Proficiency in the use of technology to include and the ability to maintain social media accounts.
- Ability to map safe walking and biking routes within the walking zone.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and oversee project work/activities with multiple deliverables.
- Ability to work independently and exercise a high degree of initiative and judgment.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred
- Experience with physical fitness programs or sports.
- Experience working with K-8 students of diverse backgrounds.
