The Opportunity:
The Aviation Safety Program at our Daytona Beach campus is currently accepting applications for an Aviation Safety Coordinator.
The Aviation Safety Coordinator assists in the implementation of safety goals and directives set forth by the Director of Aviation Safety (DAS) and supports the DAS and Aviation Safety Program Manager (ASPM) in the daily functions of the Aviation Safety Department. The Aviation Safety Coordinator monitors the process for ERAU investigations and reporting procedures for hazards, incidents, and accidents. The chosen candidate will assist in on-scene investigations for accidents/incidents with the DAS and ASPM. They will work with the DAS and ASPM on the implementation of all Aviation Safety programs– i.e., Safety Management System (SMS), Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) Program, and Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
Primary job duties include:
Aviation Safety Programs (SMS, ASAP, FDM, ERP, and Risk Management)
  • Assist in the administration of the College of Aviation (COA) Safety Management System (SMS) program with continuous monitoring and safety improvements
  • Assist the management of the Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) and maintain the Event Review Committee (ERC) process
  • Assist the SMS risk management process and oversee frequent risk assessment meetings regarding current/potential/predictive hazards associated with the COA
  • Administer the COA operations departments drug screening process
  • Assist in aviation safety inspections/audits of COA operations, facilities, or contractors providing flight-related services including the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO).
Aviation Maintenance Sciences (AMS)/Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)
  • Assist in the creation of, and administration of, AMS/UAS safety programs. Support the SMS risk management process and oversee frequent risk assessment meetings regarding current/potential/predictive hazards associated with AMS
Safety Report Submissions
  • Support the safety department process for analyzing, investigating, and providing recommendations for all ASAP, event, and fatigue report submitters
  • Provide Flight Department leadership with safety report trend analysis derived from safety report submissions
  • Engage in continuous feedback and communication for all safety report submitters
Accident/Incident Investigation support – at campus and on-scene investigations
  • Participate in all Flight and Fleet Maintenance Department incident/accident investigations
  • Support the investigative preliminary report process to include factual information and brief summary of incidents/accidents
  • Participate as a go-team member for all off-site aviation-related incidents/accidents
  • Participate in post-incident/accident review board meetings to include lessons learned and any/all Aviation Safety recommendations
Aviation Safety Data and Statistics (monthly, quarterly, and annually)
  • Assist Aviation Programs Safety manager with all Aviation Safety databases and routinely conduct trend analysis-based statistics within the hazard reporting system
  • Facilitate the distribution of data statistics to key leadership personnel within the Flight Department
Aviation Safety Communications
  • Oversee creative content for all Aviation safety social media platforms
  • Seek and maintain timely communication methods in keeping with ongoing technological changes
Represent ERAU Aviation Safety Department at meetings, presentations, and professional organization discussions.
New Hire Aviation Safety Emphasis Training.
Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, area of study: Aeronautical Science/Aviation Safety
  • Minimum of one to three years work related experience
Licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:
  • Private Pilot License or ability to obtain, required
  • Commercial Pilot License, Certified Flight Instructor Certificate, and/or Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate, preferred
