About the role

The role is focused on the operational and strategic leadership of our Sales organization. As opposed to many other e-commerce companies, we operate a hybrid model due to the complexity and ticket size of our typical sales, where each customer is assigned to a sales representative who designs, quotes and sells the products to the customer. As the largest share of the organization by headcount and due to its fundamental importance to the success and growth of the business, the sales team is of key strategic importance to our company. Reporting to the CEO, the Sales Director oversees the successful operation, performance and development of this strategic resource.

Some of the central tasks of the role are

  • Leading the sales team to continuously exceed revenue targets and grow the sales of the company in a profitable manner.
  • Recruiting and developing the members of the sales organization for optimal performance at all times.
  • Working directly with large and small customers to gain a deep understanding for the everydays of the members of the sales team.
  • Acting as a key strategic support to the CEO in achieving the long-term objectives of the business.
  • Working closely with the IT and marketing teams to introduce technological and promotional tools for sales growth.
  • Fostering a winning, rewarding and fun culture in the sales team by leading through example.

Detail responsibilities

  • In collaboration with other departments and company management to define and fulfil the needs of the sales organization.
  • Evaluate, procure and develop sales support systems.
  • Handle escalated customer service cases to ensure customer satisfaction and minimize negative reviews and withdrawn payments.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders in other teams to ensure performance of job tasks to maximize sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor performance and provide support through frequent interactions with members of the sales team.
  • Initiate and execute sales competitions.
  • Plan and lead weekly team meetings.
  • Generate clear and easily understandable management presentations, summarizing the data and presenting recommendations for courses of action. Developing forecasts, models and analyses to support tactical and strategic decision making of the company.
  • Define talent needs within the sales organization and ensure that those needs are continuously met. Hire, develop and terminate team members.
  • Initiate, plan and execute virtual and in person team building events.
  • Define and manage the completion of special development projects on time and within budget.
  • Monitor KPIs and budgets to assess sales performance.
  • Use customers’ and other stakeholders’ feedback for necessary improvements and changes to processes, methods and policies.

Core competences

  • Outstanding leadership skills and proven experience leading sales teams, with staff responsibility. Experience of managing remote team members is a significant benefit.
  • Demonstrated successful track record of significant consistent sales growth through own initiatives.
  • Experience and understanding of the cabinet industry is a significant benefit. If the candidate does not have this, experience of related industries (e.g. flooring, roofing, countertops, home improvement, contracting/home construction) is a requirement.
  • Passion for sales and competitive spirit with a drive to outperform peers and subordinates “in the trenches”.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Extensive, own sales experience, preferably with a mix of B2B and B2C focus.
  • Strong understanding and experience of sales techniques and support systems (e.g. CRM systems).
  • Being well versed in the MS Office suite. Fluency in English in speech and writing.

Who are we looking for?

To succeed in this role several important traits are required:

  • Leadership skills: Sales is the most important and most challenging part of our business – you have the ability to make your team members see every problem as an opportunity and light the fire in them to want to achieve new heights every day. You may frequently manage people who know more about a subject than you do, and you respect and value this. You are skilled at motivating team members to constantly push their boundaries.
  • Competitive spirit: To you, sales figures are not just numbers on a sheet – it is what you live and breathe. You find a true joy and passion in constantly breaking records, and you know how to celebrate victories – individually and on a team level.
  • Customer service focus: You understand that a happy customer is a repeat customer and is the best referral that the company can get, and you understand the importance of avoiding the damage – financial and reputational – that unhappy customers can cause. You treat customer dissatisfaction cases with the same urgency as a big potential sale and you have the diplomatic skills to turn a raging bull into a songbird.
  • Being a humble team player: You are equally comfortable with high level negotiations with large customers as with getting coffee for the team at the office and you enjoy talking to the old lady dreaming about her new kitchen as much as you do spending time with your team members to improve their sales and their spirits. This is a highly hands-on role with detail daily operational involvement.
  • Analytical ability: You understand that the difference between an idea and a good idea is in the trial and analysis. You are efficient in creating and presenting analyses built on large quantities of information in a simple and understandable way.
  • Curiosity: You realize that in a competitive and constantly changing industry, knowledge and experience are never complete. You continuously educate yourself, your team and the rest of the organization.
  • Strong work ethic: Deadlines are holy and we are an e-commerce company, where customers are active and orders arrive around the clock, 7 days a week. Sometimes you have a 40-hour work week, sometimes 60. You are equally happy for both, but maybe a little happier for the latter.
  • Dedication: You are passionate about what you do and work with a true drive to make sure every day is a step forward in your fields of responsibility.
  • Fun: We have a great company culture, with almost zero staff turnover and this applies especially to the sales team. You are spontaneous, humoristic and easygoing and find the right tone with every person you meet and you truly enjoy human interactions.
  • Independence: In a fast-growing company in a fast-changing industry, everybody is constantly busy. You are comfortable with getting a task and running with it to completion with limited input and oversight.
  • Thoroughness: You take pride in the fact that you are directly responsible for the livelihoods of many people and realize that small errors on the surface may have far reaching consequences inside and outside of our organization. This is a responsibility you value and respect.
