Under general direction of the Sanitation Supervisor, coordinates field operations for sanitation department, maintains collection center/transfer center operations, and serves as front-line field supervisor for sanitation staff as directed and in the absence of the Sanitation Supervisor. May perform duties of Sanitation Driver or Worker as needed. May work early morning hours, evenings, and working holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervises operations at collection center/transfer station: supervises all staff onsite including staff assigned to the area(s) and staff temporarily performing duties in the area such as dumping truck;
• Responsible for maintaining safety at collection center/transfer station including enforcing PPE requirements and may issue corrective actions for non-compliance by staff;
• Maintains compliance with NMED (New Mexico Environment Department) for collection center/transfer station operations including overseeing operations, ensuring reporting requirements are met, coordinating field visits from NMED staff and/or responding to correspondence and queries by NMED;
• May oversee the day-to-day field activities of City sanitation program in absence of Sanitation Supervisor and as directed;
• Provides safety training for Sanitation personnel which may include reviewing training literature, making presentations at morning staff meetings, and maintaining training logs; Responsible for maintaining PPE inventory and issuing PPE as needed to staff;
• May conduct employee performance evaluations for Sanitation staff and recommend corrective and/or disciplinary actions in accordance with personnel policy and union contracts, adhering to all EEOC requirements; coordinates with Human Resources Department as needed;
• Performs various office functions using Microsoft Office, including compiling daily reports and preparing other ad hoc and periodic reports, and may write letters, memos, and emails to elected officials, and citizens; maintains records of safety trainings; maintains route sheets for commercial and residential routes;
• Dispatches and schedules commercial services including transport trailers, roll-offs, compactors, etc., and keeps records pertaining to City’s use of commercial pickup and hauling services;
• Assists with organizing City cleanups including scheduling staff and containers, and participating/supervising staff during cleanups;
• May represent the Sanitation Department at Public Works Committee and City Council meetings, neighborhood meetings, and block walks, in the absence of the Sanitation Supervisor and as directed;
• May perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment including checking and adding various fluids as needed to ensure safety and proper maintenance is performed; maintain vehicle service and maintenance records;
• May deliver and retrieve trash containers and inspect and repair trash containers including polycarts, and/or supervise delivery of containers;
• Performs all duties of sanitation driver and sanitation worker on an occasional basis as needed and due to staff shortages;
• Performs other related duties as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
