Job Title: School PsychologistLocation: DistrictJob Group: Non-UnionPay Level: ExemptReports To: Director of Student Support ServicesSummary: Provides a full range of school psychological services to children ages 3-21, including screening andassessment, designing remedial educational programs, individual and group counseling with school staff andparents as appropriate. Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to determine the students eligibilityfor special services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress. Facilitates integration with the other specialeducation services, in and out of the District. Ensures compliance with District, state and federal Special EducationRegulations and policies.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1.

Provides individual and group services that emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct forstudents, such as: a. Screening and evaluating referred students by: selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests,conducting observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide foreducational program recommendations.b. Participating as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and individualized education program (IEP)committee contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the students educational plan.c. Interpreting diagnoses of students for school personnel, other involved professionals, parents, and student.d.

Providing collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting basic education staffwith suggestions and implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), pre-referral interventionstrategies, and providing recommendations and modifications to assist general education staff in workingwith special education students in the classroom setting.e. Consulting with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the students program and anyadaptations or materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom and/or at home.f. Providing direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom presentations, co-teaching ingeneral education settings, in-services to staff/parents) as needed.g.

Maintaining appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinentinformation. Re-evaluating students, as appropriate, to determine extent of progress and effectiveness ofinterventions.h. Establishing and monitoring the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage schoolpsychological services and working cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP, 504 plan, and EST.2. Participates in activities that promote best practice, professional development, and the use of appropriateclinical and educational research to enhance educational services by: a.

Adhering to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, andlaws governing special education programs.b. Supporting and implementing District policies, regulations, procedures, and administrative directives.Serving as a resource person for school personnel, and parents/guardians concerning behavior concerns,disabilities, and/or learning issues.c. Maintaining accurate records and preparing written summaries, records, reports, and assignments promptlyand efficiently.3. May perform other duties as assigned.General Responsibilities: Responsible for the general welfare and supervision of referred students whileengaged in individual or group work.

Advanced courseworkpreferred in learning disabilities, school psychology, or related field in addition to internship in a school.

At least oneyear of successful experience as a school psychologist. Knowledge of Vermont Special Education Requirements.Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Valid Vermont Teaching License with School PsychologistEndorsement and special course work related to level of students assigned.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional texts and journals, technical procedures orgovernmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively presentinformation and respond to questions from groups of parents, students, staff, and the general public.Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability tointerpret an extensive variety of instructions in various forms and to deal with many abstract and concrete variables.Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties and managesobstacles and constraints positively.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program;ability to plan and implement interventions based on department and school objectives and the needs and abilitiesof assigned students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents,and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Technology proficient withMicrosoft Windows applications and data base software.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
