Job Description
Seeking an experienced school teacher to provide full-time 1-to-1 private homeschool teaching in person. The teacher will work individually with a 9-year-old boy to complete and achieve full academic skill level in all core subjects, and be responsible for writing, facilitating, and assisting him with a customized homeschool curriculum. The teacher will collaborate closely with the parents.
This is a wonderful full-time private teaching position for the right teacher that will be Monday-Friday from 9 am-2 pm, 25 hours per week, initially. This is an immediate opportunity for the 2023 school year and pay is negotiable. The family would highly prefer that it continue as a long-term position.
State-certified secondary classroom teachers are preferred, but we will also consider teachers who are not certified but have extensive experience teaching multiple Elementary grades academic subjects. Looking for a teacher with a positive, vibrant disposition who can consistently engage and inspire a homeschooled student. Must be willing to adopt and create customized relevant curricula, and be responsible for filing, testing and submissions to comply with CA homeschool requirements.
Teachers should be reliable, patient, creative with a sense of humor, upbeat, activity-based, conscious, intentional, aware, firm when necessary, and good with positive reinforcement. Teachers should have a passion for developing a student cognitively, emotionally, and socially. Would prefer a teacher who is outdoorsy/earthy, spiritual, and somewhat athletic and who can make learning fun. Some engineering or aerospace background is a plus, but not required.
Requirements:
  • At least 2-3 years of elementary school teaching experience (state certification is preferred), must be responsible for and able to facilitate a homeschool program and write or use existing remote curricula and materials,
  • Must be willing to collaborate with parents, must have reliable transportation and cell phone,
  • Must be willing to travel to the home of the student in El Cerrito, Monday-Friday from 9 am-2 pm, must be fluent in English, must be willing to interview via live video chat + must pass a background check.
