Security Coordinator Job at Nuvance Health
Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York — plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care, and two urgent care offices. Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates, including the Thompson House for rehabilitation and skilled nursing services, and the Home Care organizations.
SUMMARY: Assists the manager/director with all phases of department operations as assigned and directed. In the absence of the manager, performs all necessary functions of daily operations to provide a reasonable level of safety and security.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS
Responsibility I
1. 1. Provides security services to maintain a reasonably safe environment.
1.1 Oversees routinely, all functions of the department and performs the duties of a Safety Officer as necessary.
1.2 Reviews officer shift reports each morning and reports unusual and/or irregular listings to manager/director.
1.3 Responds to all requests for security services within a reasonable length of time documenting each request on the daily shift log.
1.4 Conducts tours as directed by Security Policy using morse data recorder for each shift, and identifies and documents safety concerns during each tour.
1.5 Prioritizes all security calls and courier activity when multiple requests come in, ensuring direct care requests are given same-day top priority.
1.6 Provides parking lot security with a visible presence as scheduled by the director, manager, or designee.
1.7 Collects, documents, transports and secures patient valuables according to medical center policy as requested by the nursing departments.
1.8 Documents all reported losses, vandalism, safety situations and other related security matters on a Security Department Incident Report Form.
1.9 Conducts fire drills as scheduled and provides completed report including any identified problems with correctable action taken.
Responsibility II
2. Exchanges information effectively in a professional and courteous manner with supervisors, co-workers, physicians, patients and all medical center guests to ensure that the highest quality of service is provided.
2.1 Monitors employee compliance with medical center/department policies and procedures.
2.2 Ensures verbal and written communication, departmentally/inter-departmentally are shared with staff and manager.
2.3 Consults with employees to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
2.4 Reviews and follows-up on incident reports received in the department.
2.5 Coordinates all scheduled, unscheduled absences ensuring that all staffing levels are maintained.
2.6 Ensures special projects assigned are completed in a timely manner by monitoring tasks delegated to staff and making adjustments as necessary.
Responsibility III
3. Maintains all assigned equipment to ensure proper functioning for all shifts.
3.1 Handles all assigned equipment properly and does not loose, damage or take home with the exception of assigned radio belt clip.
3.2 Uses and maintains all department vehicles in accordance with department policy.
3.3 Ensures staff have completed the required monthly alarm testing, performs daily tape exchange of multiplexer recording as assigned.
3.4 Inspects all fire extinguishers and documents inspections as assigned by director/manager.
Responsibility IV
4. Assumes responsibility for the training and development of personnel to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
4.1 Provides orientation, guidance, support and training for all employees under the supervision of the manager.
4.2 Conducts weekly staff meetings in the absence of the manager/director, takes an active role in regular department staff meetings.
4.3 Counsels staff regarding work related problems and recommends remedial course of action, with approval of the manager/director.
4.4 Deals expeditiously with any staff complaints or problems impacting day-to-day operations.
4.5 Provides input to manager on employee=s performance for evaluation purpose (probationary or anniversary evaluations).
Responsibility V
5. Promotes a safe and efficient working environment by adhering to medical center and department policies and procedures.
5.1 Adheres to Infection Control Policies and Procedures at all times.
5.2 Maintains appearance of work area(s) according to department standards.
5.3 Adheres to all safety regulations reporting any variances to manager immediately.
5.4 Attends and actively participates in all in-services as required.
5.5 Reports immediately all incidents, irregularities, unsafe conditions, equipment and/or unusual occurrences to manager.
5.6 Accepts regulated medical waste, following department and infection control procedures at all times from only medical offices and businesses listed in the regulated medical waste log book.
5.7 Accepts sharps from community residents only when properly packaged according to Health Department Policy and following department procedures.
Responsibility VI
6. Responds to various emergency situations, including hazardous material spills, to eliminate or minimize unsafe conditions.
6.1 Provides crowd control and directs fire department officials to all house emergencies and disaster situations.
6.2 Responds to all reports of hazardous material spills within five (5) minutes with appropriate clean-up supplies and personal protective equipment.
6.3 Responds to all emergency security calls on ext. 72100, or through switchboard operator, within two (2) minutes and completes incident report with twenty-four (24) hours.
6.4 Provides direct supervision of violent or disruptive patients for a limited time as instructed by nursing supervisor.
6.5 Removes fire arms and other weapons from unauthorized individuals when identified and follows department procedure for safe keeping and police reporting.
6.6 Provides crowd control and directs fire department officials to all house emergencies and disaster situations.
Responds to all reports of hazardous material spills within five (5) minutes with appropriate clean-up supplies and personal protective equipment.
Responsibility VII
7. Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and Medical Center personnel as identified in the philosophy of Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
7.1 Displays a caring and courteous attitude and represents the Medical Center in a positive manner to all persons noted above.
7.2 Promotes and contributes positively to intra-departmental and inter-departmental relationships with no more than two complaints in a six-month period.
7.3 Maintains the confidentiality of employees and departmental information with no infractions.
7.4 Adheres to departmental and Medical Center dress codes as observed by Supervisor, and wears a VBMC picture identification badge, 100% of the time.
7.5 Maintains a professional demeanor at all times recognizing that the position is seen as an extension of the Chief Executive Officer.
7.6 Develops rapport with Medical Center employees that enables them to bring concerns freely and with assurance information will be shared confidentially with Chief Executive Officer.
7.7 Demonstrates ability to work well with others to ensure all assigned work duties are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
7.8 Communicates effectively at all times to promote inter-departmental and intra-departmental collaboration.
7.9 Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers and/or to accept additional assignments as requested to support the department's efficiency as observed by the supervisor.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Requires a minimum of one year of experience in security.
License: Valid N.Y.S. driving license with a good driving record. N.Y.S. Security Guard Registration is helpful.
