The Security Guard position is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, staff, and visitors in the assigned school. This position will protect agency premises, assets and personnel and maintain a high visibility presence and prevent all illegal or inappropriate actions. The goal of this position is to detect, deter, observe and report. The Security Guard position will also be responsible for coordinating and conducting monthly fire drills and lockdowns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide a safe secure environment for students, staff and guests on campus.

  • Coordinates and conducts monthly fire drills, lock downs and other emergency building evacuations/precautions.

  • Monitor security surveillance equipment to protect facilities and assets.

  • Conducts elevator inspections as assigned.

  • Investigate, review, and report to school administration and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as appropriate, on accidents, incidents and violations of law.

  • Permits entry of authorized persons in the building and appropriately confronts unauthorized persons for questioning and checking for passes and identification cards as needed.

  • Assist law enforcement officers as directed by agency administration.

  • Helps to create and maintain a working relationship with the local police and fire and rescue departments.

  • Assist in development and implementation of action plans to provide safe environment and immediate response to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents and others.

  • Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the agency building and grounds to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or inappropriate actions and detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.

  • Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.

  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff and community members.

  • Maintains security records, logs and reports, inclusive of ensuring there are enough visitor tags available.

  • Accepts packages and ensures they are delivered to the correct individual.

  • Conduct and document follow-up contacts for all services provided, identify, resolve and communicate obstacles and challenges to supervisors promptly.

  • Participate promptly, actively and responsively in all required communications (calls, emails, data entry, reporting, meetings, etc.) as assigned.

  • Actively support the development, promotion, organization and service delivery of the agency’s programs.

  • Actively participate in special community events and agency-wide initiatives including development events and activities.

  • Assist with determining the overall effectiveness of specific services and projects offered by the agency activities and programs by completing internal or administering client surveys (phone, mail, email, etc.).

  • Maintain and enthusiastically promote a positive image of the agency, programs, services and staff through actions, verbal and written communication and professional appearance.

  • Maintain and promote and project a positive, supportive and collaborative demeanor with all agency staff, supervisors, leadership team members, clients, vendors, visitors, agency partners and any community members and officials.

  • On-call assignments, as needed, directed by the administration.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned in support of agency and program needs and operations.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
(Must be fully met in order to qualify for position)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skill in performing building security and lock down procedures.
  • Knowledge of security codes, policies, and regulations.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to handle and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Basic computer skills to allow access to HOPES CAP, Inc. email and Employee Self Service to be able to maintain communication within Agency.
  • Evenings and weekend work are regularly required for various agency initiatives, program and community activities and events.
