Full time counselor needed for the Kentwood Welcome Center in Kentwood, LA. Customer service experience required, knowledge of Louisiana culture, customs, and tourism assets important but not critical. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Providing customer service including meeting/greeting visitors, assisting them with travel info, and providing general info about attractions & events. Able to work on some administrative items such as ordering brochures, calculating metrics, and keeping track of inventory.
As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Tourism Information Counselor 1 or Tourism Information Counselor 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Provides information on localities, museums, parks, events, and other attractions to visit.
Assists travelers with hotel reservations and weather reports from the Internet.
Provides directions, shortest routes or scenic routes.
Distributes brochures and maps.
Answers questions from visitors, by phone and mail, regarding the state, its history and its culture.
Conducts research by reading industry publications, visiting travel websites and consulting with others to keep abreast of upcoming events and to broaden knowledge of the state.
Participates in educational study tours.
Keeps daily records or files; stocks brochure racks; orders supplies/brochures; performs other clerical duties.
Attains CPR certification and becomes re-certified annually.
