SUMMARY:

Monitors and actively operates the drug distribution system of the Center to assure compliance with established standards and of pharmacy practice to include processing medication orders, preparing/checking medication orders, providing oversight of pharmacy support personnel, and being readily accessible to staff for consults.


INVENTORY:

Assists in inventory control, ensures that stock medication is rotated according to expiration dates, and ensures that there is an adequate supply of medication in the pharmacy to fill unit needs. Monitors controlled drug inventory, updates prime vendor computer database, and assists in processing returns/disposals.


ADMINISTRATIVE:

Organizes and maintains pharmacy log-books in issues, documents and drug receipts. Prints routine Pharmacy reports and distributes appropriately. Assists in establishing, reviewing, and updating Pharmacy policies and procedures, protocols, and directives. Participates in the review process, which includes reviewing work for accuracy and completeness, in addition to prioritizing daily assignments. Assists in training and orientation of pharmacy staff through policy/procedure reviews, staff directives, protocol updates, and training conferences. Operates computer terminal, printer, photocopying machines and other office equipment.


GENERAL:

Maintains work area in a clean/orderly fashion. Actively participates in pharmacy team meetings and other meetings where pharmacy representation is required. Performs other related duties as needed.


Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:


Ability to prioritize work and work under pressure.

Basic computer knowledge.

Ability to walk extended distances across campus.


Other physical requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up 17 stairs and 50 feet in 30 seconds.
  • Must be able to go up and down 17 stairs 8 times in 8 hours.
  • Must have normal vision and hearing, including use of corrective devices.
  • Must be able to work with or around cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Must be able to do repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck and head; up to 60 movements in 1 hour.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in all areas of training, some of which requires physical activity such as CPR, MANDT, and Heimlich training.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, push and stoop 10 times in one hour, if necessary.
  • Must be able to physically operate all equipment necessary to do job tasks, including using a keyboard for 1 hour.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds or drag 150 pounds for 3 feet distance.
  • Must be able to carry up to 15 pounds up 17 stairs in 1 minute.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for 1 hour without a break.
  • Must be able to walk 800 feet without stopping in 5 minutes.
  • Must be able to drive an EZ Go or vehicle up to 3 hours at one time if job essential.
