Position Summary
The Senior Program Manager, Los Angeles Spay and Neuter will report to the Senior Director of Programs and is responsible for leading MFA’s strategic spay and neuter efforts across Los Angeles. As the Senior Program Manager you will convene, partner and engage with local spay and neuter organizations, nonprofits and key stakeholders to increase communication and collaboration to maximize existing and future resources. You’re a relationship builder and will identify areas of opportunity and efficiencies for spay and neuter operations in LA. This is both a strategic and tactical position and the right candidate will transition seamlessly between the two responsibilities.
You will:
- Report to the Senior Director of Programs to spearhead critical spay and neuter efforts in Los Angeles. This includes sourcing high level data from sheltering agencies, identifying gaps for improvement and providing a strategic roadmap to increase spay and neuter capacity in Los Angeles.
- Love data and are highly analytical. You can articulate the questions that need to be answered in order to inform the right approach toward achieving MFA’s objectives.Develop a strategy to get the data MFA needs to identify resource deserts, where resources may be overabundant and identify the whitespace for MFA to bring solutions to. This includes using technology to map existing areas of coverage and transforming your findings into easy to understand, visually compelling information to share with key stakeholders.
- Develop a deep understanding of the spay and neuter landscape in the greater Los Angeles area. You can quickly get up to speed and understand the nuances and interconnectedness between public and private stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships and trust with existing spay and neuter organizations, animal welfare organizations and elected officials. Possess a high level of emotional intelligence.
- Provide strategic, data informed grant making decisions, ensuring dollars are being used to drive scalable, sustainable and incremental change. Identify strategic funding opportunities.
- Drive the strategy of the newly formed Robert and Erika Brunson Fund (REBF) to fulfill the mission of eradicating unnecessary euthanasia of companion animals through equal access to spay and neuter services for the community, while promoting the joy of pet adoption to people everywhere.
- Sit on the board of partner organizations and help support their strategic initiatives and success.
- Engage with Elected Officials and Public Office to increase spay and neuter subsidies and dollars allocated toward strategic spay and neuter efforts.
- Lead the creation, conception, and execution of website content, social media, and other community-building campaigns
- Know how to effectively message. Be comfortable with public speaking and delivering poignant messages.
- Develop strategies and execute on those initiatives with partners, organizations and key stakeholders.
- Be responsible for long and short-term program planning, budgeting, setting performance goals, tracking results, and reporting.
You’ve gotta have:
Successful candidates for this role will have a mix of the below experience, education, and skills. We are flexible in considering your background but want to ensure that you have the tools to thrive! Please review and make sure that your skill set aligns with:
- 7+ years of professional experience in a HQHVSN organization or in the field of Animal Welfare or Veterinary Services. You have a solid understanding of spay and neuter best practices, operations and have worked in and around nonprofit organizations.
- Technical Certificate or Bachelor’s Degree and/or related field or equivalent work experience and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position
- Exceptional program management skills and experience including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple large projects with competing deadlines simultaneously, working effectively and efficiently to provide quality service delivery.
- A proven ability to develop and maintain and nurture partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues and partner organizations, government officials, and stakeholders. You have a passion for helping people, because you understand that’s how we help pets.
- Exceptional facilitation skills that drive to action and results, including the ability to facilitate groups of people with divergent opinions.
- An experienced and confident communicator that demonstrates excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills (including proofreading and editing); exhibits astute interpersonal skills and diplomacy.
- Strategic thinker who is able to develop ideas while not losing sight of the details.
- Flexible, adapt to changing business needs and have an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Highly collaborative: maintaining a positive, team player attitude who is at ease working with multiple and diverse stakeholders and who brings enthusiasm, curiosity, humility, and humor to their work.
- Proficient at G Suite and quick learner of other SaaS tools.
- Willing to travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles area on a frequent basis.
