Job Summary:

The Senior Staff Accountant assists with preparing monthly and year end closings, journal entries, maintaining fixed asset legers, and bank and general ledger reconciliations. Many aspects of the monthly closing process will be your sole responsibility as you prepare certain aspects of the internal financial statements and assist in producing cash flow projections and annual budgets. We will rely on your previous experience and continued education on the job to help the department develop and implement new policies and procedures to modernize and simplify our existing Standard Operating Procedures. In addition, you will participate in compliance as you interact with our external auditors and assist with our annual audit, and review schedules for reporting processes. Please be aware that this position will require occasional regional travel to branch locations across Minnesota.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

MANAGEMENT– About the Business

  • Prepares and completes general ledger entries, and more complex journal entries and account reconciliations like cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll.
  • Assists with monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Coordinates month-end closing process and prepares reports for management.
  • Maintains the fixed asset records and monthly depreciation and reconciliation entries.
  • Cross-trains and occasionally acts as backup for Cash Application Specialist, posting customer payments and lockbox activity.
  • Supports daily activities of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable as needed.
  • Liaises with vendor applications, including monitoring setup and maintenance.
  • Assists with the creation of monthly balance sheets and income statement analyses for reporting to management.
  • Ad hoc reporting and special projects as required.

  • Participates in weekly departmental meetings.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining policies and practices to enhance the completion of business goals.
  • Ensures that financial controls and policies are followed at all times and assists with internal and external financial audits.

Education & Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 2-5 years related work experience
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel

  • Experience in a Dealership or in the Heavy-Duty Trucking industry
  • CDK Experience
