This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.

Salary Grade: NC09 Salary Range: $37,577 - $65,760

“The standardized annual salary for this position is $50,957 dependent upon fund availability and OSHR approval.”

Alexander Correctional Institutional Institution is located in Alexander County, NC. Alexander Correctional Institution is a close/minimum custody male facility.
Employees oversee officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Employees at this level supervise more staff than recognized in the lower level Correctional Sergeant II. Positions report directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager. Ensures that staff is fully trained and that proper conduct, actions and procedures are followed. Maintains facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance and health and safety of inmates. Gives direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies. May refer inmates to restrictive housing for temporary assignment. May lead staff in carrying out tactical assignment(s). Responds to emergency situations, searches for escaped offenders, and transports offenders. Conducts and/or supervises searches of offenders, their living quarters, and work areas for contraband. Investigates and takes action, where appropriate, regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. Prepares and reviews a variety of reports. Completes annual performance evaluations and assists in assessing, evaluating, and implementing employee discipline. Conducts staff briefing sessions. Performs other related duties as required.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

Documented knowledge of Facility Operations.
Documented knowledge of Prisons' Policy and Procedure.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
