What You'll Do:
Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol
Report In Location: 1970 W. Broad St. Columbus 43223
Under general supervision, plan & administer overall social media strategy in alignment with the goals & objectives of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP); Enhance the image of OSHP & its divisions through social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.), blog posts & other platforms; Establish priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (e.g., provide developmental opportunities & work direction, coach staff to foster development, monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security, evaluate performance, approve section staffing levels, recommend discipline, pre-screen applications & participate in interviews); Create editorial content including text, photos, graphics, video & blogs based on brand essence & guidelines & in coordination with marketing, advertising & public relations plans of OSHP & partner state agencies; Utilize content management & scheduling tools to post content outside of standard business hours, when visitors are engaged; Serve as an advocate for OSHP in third party social media spaces, engaging in dialogues & answering questions where appropriate (i.e., Facebook messages); Ensure that a consistent marketing message is delivered to the various audiences & OSHP's brand is strengthened; Serve as member of the crisis social media communications team; Engage partners from within agency tourism industry & entities with shared goals as they operate on social media channels; Look for opportunities to collaborate &/or elevate brand awareness, & increase total engagement; Provide on-call support for after-hours critical incidents.
Monitor all social media networks for mentions of OSHP related posts, including relevant hashtags (i.e., #saferohio, etc.); Enhance OSHP's position as a valuable resource for Ohioans seeking assistance the OSHP by proactively responding to questions posted from consumers that may not directly be asked to OSHP; Works with the Public Affairs command staff as well as the Communications Director to effectively respond to negative posts/comments directed to OSHP: Monitors social media for news stories related to the OSHP; Engages with customers, where appropriate, to assist & advance their impression of Ohio; Travels within state to assist with agency events.
Collects, analyzes & makes recommendations on all social media tracking data: Sets yearly & bi-yearly goals for engagement of fans on social networks, including number of Facebook fans, Instagram followers, etc.; Evaluates the effectiveness of posts & social media platforms as a whole; Tracks the quality & quantity of engagement with OSHP social media channels using analytics to analyze & report on these benchmarks every month; Stays informed on trends in digital & social media & social media analytics; Provides recommendations on engagement best practices in existing social networks & emerging social networks.

Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 12 mos. exp. in public multi-media techniques & relations in field of journalism or communication; valid driver's license.
  • Or 36 mos. exp. in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings; valid driver's license.
  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Public Information Officer 1, 64421; valid driver's license.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Major Worker Characteristics
Knowledge of: Management; Employee Development; Supervision; Public Relations; Office Practices & Procedures (OSHP); Agency Policies & Procedures (ODPS); Social Media Networks; Effective Marketing/Communication.
Skill in: Word Processing (Microsoft Office Applications); Equipment Operations (general office equipment).
Ability to: Interpret variety of instructions in written, oral, picture or schedule form; Define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; Deal with many variables & determine specific action (e.g., research, production); Prepare & deliver speeches before specialized audiences & general public; Originate &/or edit articles for publication; Gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; Handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public.
