The Division of Enterprise Services (DES) is seeking to fill a Software Asset Specialist position with the Bureau of Information Technology Services (BITS).

This position has the ability to work remotely up to 3 days per week but may be required to report to an office location on occasion to complete certain tasks. This position can be headquartered at 1 W Wilson Street in Madison or one of our regional locations (below). This schedule may vary based on training or operational need.

Position Summary
This position functions as the subject matter expert on information technology software licensing and asset management. The primary focus of the Software Asset Specialist role is software asset management and purchasing procedures including quotes, purchasing, license tracking, and compliance. The Software Asset Specialist will have a strong customer service focus, work with minimal supervision, frequently assist others in their areas of expertise, work on multiple projects, and prepare management reports. Interaction with staff and personnel from all organizational levels and areas of expertise from within and outside of DHS is an essential component of this position.
The Software Asset Specialist functions as a backup for the Hardware Asset Specialist role. This includes assisting with the development of the annual PC replacement plan, hardware inventory and tracking, and hardware purchasing, invoicing, receipt and deployment.
Salary Information
The starting pay is between $37.00 and $44.00 per hour (approximately $76,960 and $91,520 per year) depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. This position is classified as an IS Technical Services Specialist and is in pay schedule and range 07/33. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former employees is set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.
Job Details
- All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
- All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether they are vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.
- DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
- Employees must have access to secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee’s headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- Experience tracking customer hardware or software asset information using tools such as Peoplesoft, Cherwell, SNOW, etc.
- Experience providing customer service in an office environment (e.g., providing information, answering questions, resolving issues, etc.).
- Experience working with vendors to obtain quotes on technology assets.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience facilitating the reporting of assets including performing asset compliance.
- Experience coordinating software license processes (e.g., coordinating license purchases and renewals, preparing license disposition reports, making recommendations on license optimization, etc.)
- Experience working with internal and external partners (e.g., IT Service Management, Process Owners, Technical Leads, Application Owners, customers, etc.) to develop and support process improvements, compliance, and/or operation efficiencies.
