Job Classification: Exempt SalarySupervised by: School PrincipalPrimary Function The primary function of this position is for the Special Education Director to be responsible for proper maintenance of records for special needs students, oversight and evaluation of the Special Education Team, and will be the primary person responsible for ensuring that students with special needs receive the proper accommodations and/or modifications within the classroom. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEffectively communicate with teachers, parents, and administrators to facilitate the IEP processSupervise and evaluate certified and classified special education staffEffective consultation with parents, students, teachers, and school/district administrationMaintain accurate and organized student and program recordsRemain current on rules set forth in special education law and regulationsMaintain privacy of student records and information according to all applicable laws and guidelinesEnsure that all general education teachers know and understand accommodations for the special needs students they serveAssist with interviewing of special educational and related service professionalsAdminister program planning and financial management for special education department in collaboration with school/district administrationPrepare budget for IDEA funding with the Business Manager with continued evaluation of expenses throughout the year.Monitor and update team on all Federal and State laws regarding Special Education requirements.Develop and maintain all procedures applicable to the Special Education Department.Travel as needed statewide quarterly or as applicable, for school orientation/events to deliver hardware/provide technology support in person Ability to work as a team to accomplish school/district mission/goalsOther duties as assignedKnowledge and SkillsAbility to maintain professional confidentiality Strong attention to detailAble to handle multiple tasksExcellent interpersonal skillsExcellent phone etiquetteOrganizational skills, including ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and recordsAbility to travelProficiency in Special Education paperwork/IEP software and management systemsKnowledgeable about Special Education lawAbility to work in a culturally diverse environmentProficient in Microsoft Office, Google Apps and EdPlanAbility to work under pressure, pay attention to detail, meet deadlines, deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure. The Special Education Director will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. The incumbent is located in a busy, open office area. The incumbent is faced with constant interruptions.The position must be able to lift large boxes or luggage (up to 50 pounds) or heavier with assistance, must also be able to lift and bend repeatedly when stocking laptops and boxes.
