The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) currently has a vacancy for an unclassified Special Investigator in the Transportation Division. The KCC is a multi-faceted agency responsible for regulating public utilities including electric, natural gas, telecommunication and water companies as well as motor carriers, oil and gas pipelines and oil and gas natural production. The Commission’s headquarters is in Topeka with the central Conservation office in Wichita and four Conservation district offices located in Dodge City, Wichita, Chanute and Hays.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position will serve as a Special Investigator for the KCC Transportation Division. There will be frequent travel with minimal overnight stays.


Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Answer questions regarding the state and federal Transportation regulations.
  • Provide educational training.
  • Investigate complaints.
  • Conduct commercial motor vehicle inspection and auditing of motor carriers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Two years investigating, fact finding or enforcing state or federal laws and regulations. Education in communications, psychology, social work, public or business administration, criminal justice or law may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Preferred Criteria:

    • Working knowledge of the state and federal Transportation Safety and Hazardous Materials Regulations. This includes writing reports, conducting investigations, fact finding and enforcing state and federal laws and regulations.
    • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Licenses/Certificates:

    • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:
