Job Summary

Deliver intellectual property (IP) related legal services to assigned units within the Corporate Research & Development (CRD) organization within SABIC. Work with key business stakeholders to drive high-value results in relation to transactional support, developing patent strategies, patent preparation / prosecution / maintenance, due diligence support, and IP counseling. Work collaboratively with other members of the Legal Affairs organization and with relevant cross-functional team members across the SABIC organization. Manage all aspects of assigned global IP estates to achieve business objectives.

How You Can Be the Impact

• Maintains and enhances SABIC's competitive advantage by developing effective patenting strategies for new innovations, aligning with the business strategy of the assigned organization/project.
• Implements global IP patenting strategies (patent procurement and patent portfolio management), and periodically reviews pending patent applications and issued patents to ensure patent filing is aligned with business strategy.
• Enables technology-driven transactions by advising organizations/internal stakeholders on structure of business arrangements and developing and executing effective solutions commensurate with such arrangements.
• Negotiates and executes IP-related contracts with global stakeholders and suppliers, e.g., NDAs, JDAs, research services agreements, licenses, and the like. Structures, negotiates, and drafts contracts to support global licensing activities.
• Supports venturing and M&A activities on legal matters including deal structuring, due diligence, negotiations, drafting of transactional agreements, and portfolio management.
• Coordinates and collaborates with Corporate Research & Development (CRD) stakeholders and the Senior Manager, IP – Corporate Programs.
• Handles patent litigation activities with in-house litigation specialists and outside counsel. Manages costs of outside counsel.
• Provides training to increase business’ awareness on IP matters and drive culture of compliance.
• Provides counseling to stakeholders on IP matters (including in relation to strategic and competitive IP matters) on an as-needed basis.

What Matters to SABIC

• Juris Doctor degree required
• Undergraduate degree (e.g., Bachelors of Science) or higher with relevant technical focus (e.g., chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science) required
• Licensed and in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar association
• Licensed/registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office (patent bar)
• Positive attitude and solution-focused approach
• Outstanding communication skills
• Outstanding organizational and project management skills
• Ten (10) years relevant experience in intellectual property and transactional support

Work Availability

Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Applicants must be regularly available and willing to work Monday – Friday during assigned hours of operation and such other hours as the company determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
