The Sr. Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for leading, coordinating, designing and controlling the technical activities related to embedded software for new and existing Lithium Ion battery packs and battery management systems. Ensures that designs meet all product performance, quality, safety and regulatory standards. Will provide work direction to other team members.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
Design and develop embedded software for new and existing lithium ion battery packs.
Ensure the embedded software meets functional safety, regulations, and standards, and all product requirements, including risk assessments and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
Supports development and implementation of Lithium Ion battery charging algorithms.
Work with cross functional teams to support the software integration in new and existing Toro products.
Develops technical documentations of requirements, specifications and test plans.
Ensures product compliance with internal and external certification requirements.
Performs engineering analysis of field issues and supports design improvements or corrective actions.
Interfaces and acts as the technical consultant of battery pack software for new product development groups and cross functional teams.
Effectively communicates with stake-holders both internally and externally.
Stays up to date on the state-of-the-art on battery systems and related technologies through professional organizations, independent research and seminars.
Performs other duties and assignments as requested.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an ABET accredited Electrical engineering or Computer Engineering program.
4-8+ years of embedded software design and development experience in embedded electronics and controls environments required.
Experience in embedded software development in C/C++ with hands-on experience in product design, testing, and manufacturing processes required.
Experience in product specification development and system engineering for complex systems required.

Knowledge of embedded software design verification and validation required.
Proficient with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and software peer reviews required.
Experience in Lithium-Ion battery packs and battery management systems (BMS) is preferred.
Knowledge of common EV communication protocols such as CAN J1939 and EVSE is preferred.
Experience in Electric Vehicle charging systems is preferred, but not required.
Experience with product certification and regulatory approval process is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Results-driven and action-oriented; positive and energetic.
Good problem-analysis and resolution skills.
Strong process orientation and drive for continuous improvement
Desire to work in a fast paced, challenging, and evolving environment with a team-first mindset
Able to multitask and manage multiple simultaneous projects of various complexities and size
Has demonstrated a high level of competency through successful completion of projects.
Engineer III-4-7+ years experience with embedded systems
Engineer IV-8+ years experience with embedded systems.
Scope:
With a focus on battery pack and BMS embedded software, the work involves moderate to complex projects.
Other Job-Related Components:
Working conditions: Typical office working conditions. Also works in lab and field testing (may be outside) environment.
Travel expectation: Limited travel of up to 10% consisting of short visits such as test sites, conferences or manufacturing sites.
