The Role
A 5ESS circuit switch Sr. Operations Engineer (OE), provides engineering/technical support to internal and external customers i.e. NOC, TSC, Deployment, Engineering, SECOPS, product, etc.
The Main Responsibilities
- Understand Nokia 5ESS functionality, designs, and product offerings.
- Troubleshoot and analyze complex network designs/issues and provide short/long term resolution plans.
- Understand, apply and maintain network 5ESS standards as documented.
- Provide technical feedback to engineering concerning design/product changes/enhancements.
- Manage mid-range projects with minimal supervision including OPS requirements, document reviews, MOP review, maintenance scheduling, etc.
- Work with vendors, where applicable, to determine root cause and chronic issues.
- Manage several tasks and demands at the same time.
- Participate in on-call rotation and work extended hours.
- Work in a team environment regardless of geographic locations.
- Perform the objectives in a high pressure, short timeline environment, which includes managing aggressive customer and network issues.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to clearly communicate with team members as well as other support staff and management.
What We Look For in a Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Microsoft Windows Server and/or Solarwinds Subject Matter Expert
- Experience with isolation of telecom and/or network outage causes and service restorations including understanding Cisco characteristics
- Direct customer interaction communication skills
- Proficient PC skills in office applications and network connectivity configuration
- Proficient presentation skills for presentations to technical and non-technical audiences; must be able to translate technical terms and concepts to non-technical entities.
- Must be available 24/7 for outages and maintenance window work.
- Strong communication (oral and written), customer service, organizational and multi-tasking skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cisco Layer 2 & 3 switch and router configuration and management
- Solarwinds Certified Professional certification
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Highly self motivated and directed.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
