Position Description
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property. This position is a Staff I Associate Engineer, underfilling for a Professional Engineer.
The Bureau of Safe Drinking Water (BSDW) oversees the implementation of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in the State of Nevada. Within the BSDW, the Engineering Branch is responsible for reviewing and approving engineering plans for the initial construction, or any renovation, modification, or expansion of a public water system. The different facilities that make up a public water system include surface water intakes, water wells, springs, treatment, disinfection, pumping, storage, distribution, and cross-connection control devices.
The selected candidate will review and approve engineering design plans, perform occasional site inspections, review water chemistry results, determine source water vulnerability to contamination, establish monitoring and maintenance requirements, and write technical reports and letters. The candidate will possess the ability to work independently and in a team environment, effectively communicate technical information to various stakeholders, and participate in learning and implementing revisions to the SDWA and Nevada Administrative Code.
Within the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water (BSDW), the chosen candidate will be responsible for evaluating and enforcing public water system compliance with design and construction regulations (NAC 445A) and the Safe Drinking Water Act. The candidate will review and approve engineering design plans, perform site inspections, review water chemistry results, determine source water vulnerability to contamination, establish monitoring and maintenance requirements, and write technical reports and letters.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Minimum Qualifications
Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
