Position Summary:

A national leader in structural steel Fabrication, Merrill Steel is looking for a full time Staff Accountant to join our growing team in Schofield, WI. A salaried position reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position will be an important member of the Accounting Team with many opportunities to learn and grow.

Job duties include:

· General Accounting (AR, AP, Payroll)

o Import daily bank debits and complete monthly bank reconciliation.

o Create non-project invoicing including scrap invoices / receipts.

o Participate in AP automation projects.

o Manage closing of POs related to MRO, supplies, and consumables.

o Manage PO, receipt, and invoice discrepancies to ensure timely PO closing.

o Work with AP Coordinator to assist in research of complex invoice discrepancies.

o Audit PO and invoice coding to ensure proper GL / Job / Equipment recording.

o Serve as back up for Payroll / AP when necessary.

· CapEx / Internal Projects

o Manage fixed asset accounting.

o Initialize internal projects and budgets in accounting software.

o Monitor asset addition/disposal for depreciation tracking.

· Tax / Compliance

o Prepare and file periodic sales & use tax returns.

o Audit AP tax coding to ensure proper compliance.

o Research tax related issues to determine proper accounting.

o File annual Property/Real Estate tax returns.

o Manage annual state corporate registration renewals.

· General Ledger / Reporting

o Assist in GL reconciliation duties as assigned by Accounting Manager.

o Assist in monthly financial statement preparation as assigned by Accounting Manager.

· Other

o Work with Accounting Manager and CFO to identify workflow deficiencies and develop plan to enhance processes.

o Collaborate with other accounting staff to provide support for the annual financial audit.

Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

· Requires an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.

· 2+ years of progressive work experience required.

· Strong analytical skills with an aptitude for problem solving and process improvement.

· Ability to execute established company policies and procedures and maintain an effective system of internal control.

· Functions at a high level when working independently or in a group.

· Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

· Must be organized and able to work accurately under time constraints and deadlines.

· Exceptional computer skills, including Excel, with previous exposure to ERP systems preferred.

· Experience with sales and use tax regulations a plus.
