About the Role
The Uber Technical Program Management (TPM) team plays a critical role driving high-impact org-wide initiatives and continuously improving processes to increase the effectiveness of our product and engineering organizations.
The security organization at Uber is dedicated to enabling safe and secure innovation while protecting the communities we serve both online and in the physical world. Our teams are responsible for protecting both people and their data across intersections of the digital and physical world. The primary objective for Uber Engineering Security team is to enable the technical ambitions of the company while maintaining the highest standards of security for our customers and partners.
A TPM in this role will structure and drive large sophisticated cross-team technical initiatives in Security spanning Identity & Access, Endpoint security, Cloud Security for large workloads, etc to name a few. Specifically, the TPM will lead the problem space, work closely with engineering/product leads to conceptualize solutions, organize/align multiple engineering teams for delivery and drive execution via check points/critical metrics. They will look for ways to standardize, ensure execution is efficient and consistent, and set accountability by tracking progress, resolving dependencies, identifying issues, evaluating risks and communicating status to upper management and project collaborators. The TPM will intrinsically act as a coach to engage and energize the product and engineering teams to achieve aggressive goals.
What the Candidate Will Do
As a Staff Technical Program Manager, you will play a key role in shaping some of the complex, multi-disciplinary security programs from start to finish. You are intuitive, focused, driven, organized, insightful and productive. You break through communication issues and effectively develop relationships with collaborators at all levels of the organization. You build trust across the organization. You are not afraid to be direct, but you strive to act with compassion and integrity. TPM work involves the following:
- Work with collaborators to identify technology gaps, debate technical approaches, and propose innovative solutions across various security areas. Understand technical implementation at the architecture level and propose technical alternatives when necessary. Ask questions that clarify priorities and push the team to be highly effective. Develop broad domain and technical knowledge.
- Collaborate with engineering leaders to define strategy and requirements, secure alignment on key objectives and goals, and define achievements.
- Lead complex and large scale cross-team, multi-functional initiatives. Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status to upper management and project customers.
- Proactively remove obstacles to drive momentum and progress. Identify communication gaps, manage issue partner concerns and provide support to teams balancing competing priorities. Get results proactively.
- Help manage the multi-functional planning and business planning process, leading conversations with key collaborators to develop concepts for critical initiatives, and developing those into detailed program / project plans (including roadmaps, funding planning, resource planning and hiring goals).
- Continuously improve and scale the organization. Implement continuous improvements to the engineering organization and the program management process. Share program/project process frameworks, tools, and standard methodologies that can be adopted throughout the organization. Improve product development and delivery. Mentor project management skills within our engineering leadership team.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a TPM, Product Management, or Engineering Manager in a security domain
- Solid understanding of cloud based security solutions, including Identity Access & Governance, Securing application workloads, Network segmentation, Cyber security, and Security monitoring tools both on-prem and in cloud.
- Solid technical proficiency and an ability to understand technical designs, challenges, and risks. Engineers enjoy working closely with you.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional emotional intelligence.
- Shown strong cross-team and cross-org collaborator management.
- Analytical and truth seeking. Ability to understand complex concepts and make reasoned decisions objectively.
- Metrics driven: Experience figuring out effective program important metrics and using them to measure program success and issues.
- Strong organizational skills to juggle many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items.
- Excellent in identifying process gaps, measuring progress, and balancing engineering and product efficiency with process overhead.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of cloud security lifecycle deployment and security automation frameworks in GCP, Oracle Cloud (OCI), AWS and/or Azure.
- Experience with design and implementation of technologies such as Sailpoint, Oracle/OIG, OneLogin, Ping Identity, 2FA/MFA/FIDO and ZeroTrust Technologies, etc.
- Computer Science degree, or related field.
- Developer experience, including writing, testing and deploying code.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $203,000 per year - $225,500 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $203,000 per year - $225,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $203,000 per year - $225,500 per year.
