Job Summary:

The Stock Prep Superintendent will oversee all aspects of safely producing top-quality brown paper/cardboard within a top decile cost position. This position will specifically manage and lead the paper machine, including OCC stock prep, coating preparation, OCC stock prep delivery systems, and other supporting systems.

This position will ensure that the mill produces liner and medium grades to meet production budgets as well as quality standards. This position will work to meet and beat cost budgets.

This position will ensure that mill operations are well coordinated and planned in concert with maintenance activities and remain in compliance with all environmental regulations.

This position will manage a team of 16and will foster and grow a culture of team engagement and flow to work mindset. This position will have technical knowledge of the machine and be able to assist in, or lead troubleshooting efforts.

Key Position Responsibilities: include but are not limited to the following:

• Provide direction and leadership to safely operate and manage the stock process to produce quality cardboard and paper which meets or exceeds our customers' expectations.
• Champion the safety process; enforce safety rules/policies/practices, increase safety awareness, communicate incidents and corrective action taken.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations; adhere to permit requirements.
• Establish and direct production operations to produce products according to customer specifications and job schedule.
• Lead productivity improvements by identifying bottlenecks and developing plans for remediation.
• Lead efforts in pursuit of cost savings initiatives through operational improvements.
• Provide organizational direction to continue all improvements and accomplishments for the operating function.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to fully optimize machine operating efficiencies.
• Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure efficient execution of troubleshooting, planning and maintenance repair activities are carried out.
• Provide leadership and strategic vision to improve overall cost effectiveness in support of the mill's cost objectives.
• Oversee training initiatives for department personnel.
• Actively participates in the strategic and capital planning processes for the department.

Key Position Requirements:

• Stock Preparation, OCC, Paper/Pulp Mill, or Paper/Pulp Machine experience required
• Strong communication skills (written/oral)
• Solid problem solving, organizational, analytical, strategic planning and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to self-manage in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
• Proven project management skills
• Strong Leadership/People skills
• Strong troubleshooting and/or mechanical background (pumps, screening, etc).
